It’s a shame the route doesn’t go off the path and follow some of the wilder trails. Half of this route is much nicer full of amazing flowers and wild mountains to look at.

This is stunning, we go here regularly! Once you pass over the cliff walk you can continue on road for kms and yes it is more spectacular than the Cliffs of Moher. Definitely recommend it.

HikingGreat!

A great site and quite magical on a windswept rainy day, which it often is. There is the bonus of finding St. Colmans grave, a wonderful spot.

This can be a muddy trail,it is steep at times, with big steps up and down. There is a short cut at the end, either keep following the blue arrows, or take the green arrow, reach the car park.

Very pleasant, relatively flat trail. Did a second loop of the upper reservoir.

Nice spot. No mobile phone signal in the surrounding area so if you stop and are navigating with your phone, don’t turn it off.

Gorgeous hike, I did it in the winter which isn't optimal if your primarily interested in the local flora/fauna but all the trails are very quiet and it feels at though the castle's grounds are your own. Need to go back in the spring and take a look at the gardens which were impressive even in the middle of January.

We started at the Church of Ireland at 9:44, Stad 15 of the Turas Columcille is inside the graveyard, then if you head west, you meet Stad 1 and 2. Continue up the route. We walked until the the tower and only came across Stad 4 and 5 in a farmer's field. We reached the tower at 11:26. It was a leisurely pace. There was a good bit of fog. We were on a schedule so we walked back down the same route and arrived back at 12:45. We didn't have hiking or walking shoes and it was fine, but the upper part would be wet in worse weather.

Great trail, one point to note is that the waymarked point to get to Ballyedmonduff wedge tomb is not correct - this covers private property (Mountain Biking Facility) and this route is not open to walkers, however continue only about 50m further down the path (@GPS coordinates 53.23190, -6.23342) and there is a clearly signposted route for the Dublin Mountain way sign posts for a trail that you can follow. The wedge tomb is more easily found then described by following the DMW route until you reach a metal footbridge over the forest road before you reach the open area (the now disused golf course described in the guide which is now part of the Mountain Biking Facility). Cross the footbridge to find the wedge tomb.

Beautiful and easy walk. I came here during a day tour from Dublin. The scenery in the upper lake is very beautiful.

Excellent trail for the whole family. May be a little long for children or elderly but the trail can be started at the upper reservoir instead if needed. Good roads, rocky at times and slight uphills but it’s worth it for the beautiful sights and bright nature. Occasional sights of sheep and cows and old architecture like the bridge and lake houses make the walk much more entertaining. On sunny and dry days there’s lovely grassy shores to have picnics on. I’d highly recommend this trail for a long walk away from the busy bustle of the city!

Excellent trail. Plenty of deer around this time of year. The lakes are beautiful in the early morning sun. Don’t miss the old St Ann’s burial ground and Ruins half way around the second lake.
