a lovely trail. We only did a short walk, cutting through the sanddunes because of heavy rain.
Will definitely return!

Amazing views of the valley below.

My husband and I completed the loop this morning. It’s very well maintained and easy to do. It’s pretty flat with some very small inclines. Unfortunately it was quite misty so we did not see the views we had hoped to but we will be back. Note: there is a clay shooting area in the middle that we were not aware of.

knocknarea is a great walk for individuals, groups or families. Great views on a clear day. The boardwalk path begins on the sligo to strandhill road at the rugby club and goes up to the cairn. Approx 50 min walk up. In June 2018 a new path was added. It starts on the path below the boardwalk and goes clockwise around the hill to join the old pass at the old car park on the SE side. Approx 90 min walk.

There are some nice views looking up Benbulben and of the countryside. The trail runs around the outside of the wood and finishes by running through a logged out area. The smaller loop through the forest is still a wide gravel road; personally I would rather walk in the forest with some trail blazes and do without the manicured trail. It's not a wilderness hike but would be a good spot for a morning jog.

Very manageable trail, almost all groomed. Great views. Wide gravel path at the start becomes about 500 steps built of wooden beams as the trail gets steeper. Be aware that the steps are only about 20 inches wide and without a rail, so if you have vertigo, balance issues or fear of heights, this may not be for you.
