This mountain is incredible. The path on the way up was very crowded mid day on a spring weekend. The route down on this map is not a legitimate path (unless I missed something, but it was a sunny day). I had to climb over gates and rock walls and hike through farmland to get back to the road. I highly recommend hiking to the summit from the parking lot, but do yourself a favor and walk back down the way you came up.

completed this trek last October. very rocky towards the top. 2 hours to get up there and an hour and a half to come down. I needed a stick and it completed destroyed my walking boots. At the top there was heavy cloud and very poor visibility however the accomplishment was worth it. Take a rucksack with drinks etc. Amazing views on the way down. Oct. 2018

This trail is not for the underdressed in bad weather. We managed to lose the trail once but made it back, I would recommend but I don’t think I’d do it on a rainy day again..

Did the trail with three kids (7-13) while on vacation, so not ideal gear. Took us about 2.5 to get up and 2 to come down but the kids felt a great sense of accomplishment. Ankle high boots would have been great, but it’s definitely better with shoes that have a firmer sole. My trail runners were fine but the softer road shoes were not ideal.

views fab on a good day. need sticks on the way down

Steep and slippery but only a few parts. The view is worth it.

This hike is difficult. Wear ankle high hiking boots and bring walking sticks. Trail is almost all rock/gravel and STEEP. The views and difficulty make it well worth the experience. Just be prepared and bring a sandwich to enjoy once you reach the top.

I have done Croagh Patrick a few times. It is an old pilgrim route and popular with all kinds of walkers. because of it's history and pilgrim Sunday I feel many people underestimate Croagh Patrick. People wear unsuitable clothing, footwear and do not go prepared for the weather which can change very quickly. As recent as last week in the midst of the hottest summer in 42 years the top was covered in cloud, it was cold and windy. 2 mile from car park to top, 2 hours up, 1.5 hours down. Easy to twist an ankle. Easy to suffer hypothermia. But a great walk if prepared properly.

Love this climb...a real challenge for me.

Amazing experience with amazing views.

Spectacular views and hike; a truly vertical hike. I would rate this hike as difficult and not moderate

Gorgeous views from the upper reaches and the top. I debited it a star because the footing is really rough at the top - loose rock.

I'm giving this five stars even though it was rainy and dreary and cold and you couldn't see anything when you got to the top...so that's saying a lot. If I can give it 5 stars under those conditions, imagine how great it would be if it was a clear day. This trail is not very easy as it is pretty much a vertical climb but when you get to the top, the sense of accomplishment is worth it. Next time I'll try and see the church, which I heard is beautiful.
