Length: 3.2 mi • Est. 1 h 35 m
A beautiful walk through the woods of the old Castlemorris Estate. Follow the pathway of the forest, which leads you to two color-coded looped walks (a red and a green) offering an excellent display of the various flora and fauna changing with each season. This developing coniferous woodland also offers samples of broadleaf trees including oak, beech, birch, larch and ash. The trail starts/finishes at the Grand Gates entrance to Castlemorris Wood, Aghaviller, Newmarket, Co.Kilkenny. Entering through the Grand gates of Castlemorris, you will pass the Gate Lodge on the right hand side. Climb over the stile on the left-hand side and walk straight along path for red loop. Continue walking for approx 15 mins, until you come to an open space where there is a picnic table. Old out buildings are visible at the back entrance to what was Castlemorris house Courtyard. At this point the loops diverge. This trail continues right around the estate with views of the old out buildings. The Trail does not include passing through the old courtyard outbuildings. Walk along a narrow path at the side of the forest, at the end of this path, turn right. Continue to follow the signs until you exit the forest onto a minor public road. Turn left and continue to walk down the hill. Enter back into the forest at the end of the hill by turning left. Follow the signs to the area where you join with green route and follow the trail back to the Grand gates.Show more

One of three sections of the Nore Valley Walk, following the River Nore. The Nore Valley Walk is the flagship project of Trail Kilkenny. Thomastown to Inisitoge This walk details the Kilkenny city to Bennetsbridge section. The Nore Valley Walk starts in Kilkenny city at the Lacken Walk. At the end of Maudlin Street there is a small car park which leads to the Lacken Walk. Follow the Lacken walk to Ossary Bridge and then continue along the Nore Valley Walk. The Nore Valley Walk is signposted from here to Bennetbridge. After 2km along the river bank the trail heads through a laneway and onto the Sion Road. Follow this road for 1.5km then cross a green stile, through a field and back to the river bank. Length: 2.7 mi • Est. 1 h 25 m
A beautiful walking trail incorporating hill-top views and a megalithic tomb. The Kilmacoliver loop is one of the most scenic walks in County Kilkenny. It starts in the village of Tullahought, where walkers can park beside the Watering Place, which is a wildlife pond fed by a freshwater spring. A mapboard displays the walking route and also shows the local wildlife in the pond and the area. Leaving the trailhead car park, follow the tarred road for 400m past a road on your right, known as the Avenue; once the road to Kilmacoliver Castle. Continue to a laneway on your left. Turn left onto the roadway which gives way to a sandy lane and ascend gently for almost 2km to reach a metal gate entrance to an old homestead - the only remaining house of the village of Bregaun. Fine views of the surrounding countryside start to open up to your left, and to your right the trig pillar atop Kilmacoliver Hill becomes visible. Just past the old house, the walk leaves the laneway and follows a dry ditch as it ascends to the summit of Kilmacoliver Hill. At the summit you will discover an ancient enclosure of standing stones, commonly known as the Burial Ground, as well as spectacular views. The walk also takes you through a recently-developed private woodland of broadleaf trees before bringing you back to the trailhead.Show more
