Great strenuous hike. Not a lot of vegetation to see but a great workout. There are 4 trails to go, the easiest through Velenjak entrance. Start the hike no later than 4am regardless of the season. Non technical hike but ensure you have crampons for snow and ice in winter. Don’t hike in March and April since snow melt makes the trail super tricky. I recommend take the lift back down to save the knee pain.

The Recording GPS is all off due to Iranian Gov't's GPS scrambling in the area, but it was a beautiful day and a great hike. Not really too hard if you are okay with the altitude and heat. We did it in 2 days staying at the shelter as a prep/acclimation climb before summiting Mt. Damavand.

I'm not sure why Kolak chal and tochal are labeled together as despite them merging at the top, they have separate entrances.. in any regards my review is for kolak chal , entering from niavaran.park jamshideyeh. it's a moderate to difficult trek , and the only reason I would give it the higher rating is because it has a very steep incline , almost all the way up (3.5km distance ,2.5km elevation) with very little to no rest (meaning it's pretty much up hill all the way) which not only kicks your butt on the way up but kicks your knees on the way down. nevertheless it was beautiful in autumn and once at top you can get some eggs, lentils or pinto beans to get charged up for the return downhill. make sure to get some cinnamon tea and rock candy, hits the spot in the cold weather!

My fav in tehran as it's as easy and hard as you want it to be. parking can be difficult , especially on weekends and holidays, so I usually take a cheap bus trip from tajrish (just ask for darakeh shuttles) there are plenty of restaurants along the trail to get yummy kabobs, fresh seasonal fruit juices and hookahs. my fav is "omran" cafe which is about an hour hike from darakeh square. the hike to "palang chal" (tigers cliff) is medium level, especially the last hill to get to the cafe (worth it for an amazing view and even better cinnamon tea) darakeh will amaze you in any season, from the hottest summer days (although the nights are better , look for soltani restuarant as they occasionally have people singing and having a good time on weekends ) to the heaviest of snow storms....

One of the best and beautiful trails in Tehran, Iran. I recommend this to people who wants to visit Iran. Even you can find nice restaurants to eat before the trail start.
