Perfect for a short stop during a road trip, or even for a long stop. It is a beautiful valley, you can stay there for hours if you want. So peaceful and we were literally alone. The waterfall is small but pretty.

A great place to stretch your legs. The icebergs are beautiful, there is plenty of parking and space here making the area feel very peaceful.

This was a pretty steep climb but we were rewarded with some amazing views of the falls and the river. Some of the footpaths off the regular trail look daunting but are worth venturing onto.

Hengifoss is a steep but easy path up a gorgeous volcanic area with a beautiful and powerful waterfall at the end and another only slightly less powerful falls half way up. Well worth doing!

wonderful hike !

Quite steep climb up to Hengifoss

This is a beautiful waterfall that you can see from the roadside. From the start of the trail/walk, there is a gradual increase in elevation. We stopped, took a few pics, & finished in less than 15 minutes.

Absolutely beautiful!

Definitely go on this hike if you have a morning or half a day in Seydisfjordur! There is a new waterfall to admire every 15 minutes. The trail is marked by posts all along. We couldn’t make it the last 0.5km because the river was too wide, but the hike was still absolutely worth it.

If you do not have glacial hiking experience but you love the idea of hiking a glacier, hire a guide and hike this glacier. I usually like hiking on my own accord but I don't have the means of effectively hiking a glacier on my own (equipment, know-how, etc.) This was some of the best money I ever spent. Hike a glacier, climb it, maybe even stumble upon an ice cave, but only with a specialist in tow. It's amazing.

To be precise, I'm assuming this trail (0.6 miles) is referring to observing the glacier without stepping foot on it. That is still an awesome experience; glaciers are insane to witness up close. Still, if at all possible, I recommend doing what you need to do (even if it means paying for a guide) to safely find yourself escorted onto the actual glacier itself. You won't regret it.

This was one of the best and closest views of a glacier we saw. You don't even have to hike the half mile to see a gorgeous view just over a small hill from the parking lot. Very pot holey road on the way there but SO worth it. I'd do the walk around the glacial lake. Really cool ice caves with falling chunks/dripping icebergs. Watch out for the edge by the water there's quicksand-like mud in some spots . My husbands hiking boot got submerged ! 

Stunning views of two waterfalls! Bit of a river to cross and a steep at parts but well worth the climb!

Few / no crowds in August? Count me in! Two waterfalls, wonderful trail. Awesome example of basalt cliffs. And the upper waterfall shows off the layers of sediment / volcanic dust that built up over the centuries / millennia (?).

Trail was "up hill" but not steep.
