I've done this hike many times, thinking of going up this weekend. If you want to avoid getting fined/arrested let me know if you want to join. In my opinion going up the stairs all the way gets boring, the backway is more of an adventure and there are better views. It can get pretty muddy and windy. Crampons(spikes) recommended, I do have some spare spikes. Message on instagram @angelo_q or email me at chicolo@hotmail.com if you'd like to join. Make sure to bring plenty of water and food.

Aloha! I typically hike up 1-3 times a week for almost 3 years now. Had an awesome time hiking up a few times last week! I will be going again possibly on Thursday/Friday this week and will be definitely going this weekend on Saturday and Sunday as well. It is often windy and/or rainy but we never have issues as we always have the right gear (including microspikes and gloves) which are supplied by me when we go. If you're looking to hike and want to link up or get some ideas of what this trail looks like feel free to reach out to me on my Instagram @mike.karas or mikekarasphotography@gmail.com. Bring plenty of water for this hike and other hikes out here in Hawaii.

a really pretty and scenic trail! the hike it’s self is just walking on rocks up to the arch which it’s pretty cool! it takes around 8minutes to get to the arch and isn’t hard at all with a small incline. the hard part is the arch which you don’t have to go up if you don’t feel comfortable. the view is amazing from all parts of the hike so going on the arch won’t make a difference :) we went with three liabilities ie people that can’t climb/get scared etc. and they managed to go under the arch but not on top of it!

So muddy! Just walk through the mud pools if you’re not worried about getting dirty - saves a lot of time. We did this on a tour and found it amazing - we learnt so much so I recommend going with a tour (only costs ~$50). The falls were quite strong and cold so be prepared for that! The kayak was fun too! We were told the trails are always somewhat muddy, even in the dry season due to the lack of sunlight most of the trail gets, so just do it!! The hike itself is quite easy.

Went to see sunrise like 100s of other people. Got there when it opened at 6 am. Great hike! It’s not super easy, it’s all uphill, you break a sweat for sure. Beautiful views!!

this was a great hike! It was definitely a challenge but the view was totally worth it! highly recommend!

Great challenge for the occasional hiker! Went Day after big rain storm and it was a little slippery but nothing hiking shoes can’t handle. First 3/4 to the cross was consistently an aggressive incline. Last 1/4 to the cross flattened out and was able to run most of it. After the cross trail is very narrow and brush covered, mild incline able to move quickly through it. Definitely worth making it to the fence at the end of the trail. Only an additional few minutes to it. Incredible views, excellent spot to send a drone up if you bring one. On the way down I was able to run about 1/2 the total hike until it got a bit to slippery for a fast pace. This isn’t a very long hike but is absolutely worth doing. Started at 7:30a, spent 30+ mins at top flying the drone, at the bottom by 10:00a. Parking is not available directly at the trail start, I parked 3/4mi. Down the road at a church. This address will give you where to park: 2499-2287 Main St, Wailuku, HI 96793. Enjoy!

The road in is in very good shape today, lots of pot holes in the first 100 yards then washboard. Can be done in a rental car no problem, if you go fast enough you just hit the hi spots.

Short hike to a fantastic spot. The olivevine pools were a bit rough today but we were able to get in the water a bit. Really cool spot.

We did this hike after a storm and were very disappointed that the community workers hadn’t raked the forest. This is extremely dangerous as eucalyptus is highly flammable. We could have spontaneously caught fire if the forest wasn’t fortunately damp from the day before. However, the weather caused a lot of trees uprooted and although you can see them clearly due to the size, I almost tripped over a twig that was sticking out across the trail. On second, we’re just kidding. Yeah there was a lot of debris after our storms here but it’s an absolutely beautiful trail and hike. Aloha.

Amazing views, very steep hike down to an incredible beach!!! The hike up is pretty intense, but worth it!

"easy" because you don't need to use your arms to pull yourself up. i thought it was a good workout and had to rest twice. beautiful.

Good trail, fairly short. Very busy even in early morning. Super muddy. Slide down the trail muddy, ropes that your supposed to be able to use to climb down but those are muddy too.

Great hike. Bit slippery with recent rain and fallen leaves. Not to busy during the mid week.

Pleasant distraction. Pretty basic. Nene and painted turtles are the highlights.

Easy hike, some mud after rain but it wasn’t too bad. Cool views of ‘rainforest,’ bamboo forest, and at the end the waterfall is quite a view. We went around 9 am on a slightly rainy Saturday morning and only had maybe 5 other people at the falls with us.

This trail is a whole lot easier if you have strong legs. Complete 100% leg workout but it’s an awesome hike with amazing views. Some of the railroad ties are in pretty rough shape, some are missing with cement blocks filling the gaps. There is an old railroad bridge you cross with no hand railing, but there is a safe way around that we didn’t try. We went around 8 AM on a Sunday and it wasn’t very busy. It had also been raining a lot the day before and some spots were a little slick.

Extremely muddy trail but definitely worth the views. The last half is in the sun so bring plenty of water.

The last part of The trail was very washed out and is a serious muddy scramble with the walls of the trail taller than me in some places. The rest of the trail is absolutely stunning. Be aware there is a river crossing and today, after a large rain yesterday, and a large rain about a week ago the shallowest crossing was about knee-deep.

So beautiful! Nice walk, very touristy, but a must on your list!

Just a mini hike. Cool to see lava rock, but not anything exciting.

First waterfall is beautiful but it’s not what I would consider a hike, more like a viewpoint. I tried to get to the second one until I got stopped by local farmer, it’s a private property and it’s fences all over the place. But I guess if the weather condition was better I would have had been able to cross the river and get there, but this time it was so rapid that I had to use the cable line if I wanted to get over, don’t do that if you don’t have permission.

Amazing hike! You get to see three waterfalls. The last one you have to swim about 150-200 feet and then climb over a smaller water fall to get to the third one. If you having problems finding where to go, look for a rope on the left hand side facing the first waterfall.
