Beautiful drive. Be careful of drivers who do not respect the one lane/narrow areas of the road where you must take turns. Hamoa Beach is a gorgeous place to swim and relax

As of 9/20/19 the 4x4 road leading to the trail is impassable due to a very large downed tree that also took out some power lines. In order to make it past you would maybe be able to crawl through, but with the power line also down it wasn't worth the risk for us.

Requires 4WD to get to trailhead. Awesome payoff view of Waimea Canyon from opposite side most people don’t experience. Sometimes a bit overgrown but easily passable. Done this hike several times and always had trail to ourselves. One of the best bang for your buck hikes on Kauai if you have a 4x4.

Drive along North shore. Nice sightseeing

This drive was definitely breathtaking but make sure you head out early, otherwise there won’t be parking at many of the trails. Also, the locals can make the drive extremely unpleasant as many will fly around the one-lane curves and ride your ass if you’re going the speed limit or even 5 over. I can’t tell you how many people I saw going 30-40 mph in a 15-20 around sharp curves and one lane bridges. Extremely dangerous. On our way back down (when we were going about 5 over the speed limit), one woman was riding our ass and wailing on the horn and swearing at me out her window and when I pulled over (NOT at a turnout because I couldn’t get to one quick enough to let her pass) she pulled up and stopped her car next to ours and started threatening us. So. Be warned.

A must do, preferably early in the morning

Excellent hike and among Waimea Canyon's best trails!! Make sure to follow rocks across stream (no bridge) just past 0.25 mile marker because trees and bushes are obscuring trail on the other side.

One of the best scenic drives in the world! You can get stomach ache here though.

great day trip

steep, but 3.20 min up with a 4 year old isn't bad. cabin is nice

a must do! stunning

Peak days mean, peak traffic. Less on the southern side.

Worth doing once when in Maui. Some cool views and stops along the way. The drive isn't as bad as many make it out to be. Just take it slow, let others pass, and be courteous to oncoming traffic.

Be prepared for lots of stop-and-go traffic as you pass tourists scampering across the road at Laniakea, Pipeline and Sunset Beach.

HEED TO THE LOCALS TOURISTS!!!! DON'T YOU KNOW THE LOCAL RESPECT AND LAWS!? NO. BECAUSE YOU DO NOT RESEARCH BEFORE YOU COME HERE. YOU JUST COME. YOU JUST DO WHAT YOU LIKE. RESPECT LOCALS, PULL TO THE SIDE AND LET THEM PASS. WE DO NOT WANT TO BE STUCK BEHIND YOU PEOPLE THAT ARE HERE ON VACATION WITH NO AMBITIONS NOR COMMON SENSE. THIS AIN'T THE MAINLAND. WELCOME TO HAWAII, NOW GO HOME!!!

Rich in traffic and pedestrians :)

This is a beautifully scenic and intriguing drive with so much to see from walking trails, water falls, gardens, rainbow eucalyptus, banyan trees, and beaches of all colors.

This is an extremely unique landscape to behold. Acres of hot, windy pahoehoe lava flows are starkly contrasted by the beautiful blue and white-capped ocean. Always interesting to note how the temperature changes by at least 25-30 degrees from the park entrance to the end of Chain of Craters Road.

Nothing that great. The road isn't that bad, but bad driver is the problem. View is ok, but not special enough to waste a day while in Maui!

Easy stroll meandering through the crowds of pedestrians. Lots of shops and restaurants along the way.

The North Shore scenic drive is beautiful! Unfortunately we had island rain today, but it was perfect day to stay dry and drive the highway. Perfect places to stop and take pictures. Saw a Hawaiian Monk Seal taking a nap on the beach.

Nice drive along the Mauna Loa slopes. Lots of orchards; macadamia and coffee mostly. Completed the South Point leg the day prior. Several scenic lookouts historical points, and parks along this drive.

Access road, Chain of Craters Rd, was closed due to the Dec 18 partial govt shutdown.

Interesting route....the museums and planetarium are neat. The Mokupapapa Discovery Center was closed due to the partial govt shutdown.

I went to watch Pipleline, but the surf was no good that day. Watch out for sudden high waves if you walk along the waters edge, especially in winter.

A great drive.

The road is a 4x4 road, for most people. The hike is pretty cool, in the redwoods and it was foggy the whole time. Which is cool, what I was looking for, except I did not know there were redwoods on Maui LOL. Any way, it was a definite moderate, I looped in the ridge trail and was more than i needed. No views, but great forests.
