Fantastic trail along the coastline, following an old railroad bed so this is more of a stroll than a hike. Beautiful scenery, with the steep hills to the south and the ocean to the north. Highly recommended for the nature lover. Wildflowers abound, several pods of humpback whales were passing by along shore, three monk seals were hauled out on the point, and the albatross colony is stunning, with pairs performing courtship dances right next to the trail, and birds swooping in on their 7-foot wingspan right over your head. Everyone we saw was respectful of these rare species at the point. Please do the same if you hike out there! Keep your distance from the seals. The trail was mostly dry when we went in mid January, though we could see that after rain it would get muddy. I would definitely recommend going early or late in the day, as there is no shade.

I saw reviews that this trail was muddy, but that is an understatement. This trail was an almost unrelenting quagmire of shoe-sucking soul-draining slop. When it wasn't sticky it was slippery. I was wearing old trail runners that I didn't mind getting muddy, or wading through the river crossings in, but much of the mud still required slow navigating to avoid being ankle deep and losing a shoe. Very little enjoyable hiking along the entire length. As a regular hiker I hate to see trails like this, where the trail just keeps creeping wider as people trample vegetation to get around the worst spots. Waterfall was pretty, not spectacular. Limited viewing angle which is tough when a large group of 20-somethings are taking endless glamor selfies. We weren't up for the wet rock climb to see the second cascade. If you have patience for two hours of slogging and a pair of sturdy shoes you don't care about, or if the trail ever dries out, go for it!

Hiked part of this trail late in the day 01/24/20. We were driving the Tantaus Drive after a long flight from Ohio. Really felt good to stretch the legs! The foliage was beautiful and a couple of good views of the mountains with cloud bathed in early evening sun. We only did a couple of miles or so due to the fact we were running out of daylight.

Great trail if you’re looking for a quick hike - probably takes ~30 minutes to get to the top. It does get pretty muddy, so it may be best to avoid after recent rain.

Good trail - I think the view of the north shore while going up the switchbacks may be the best part of this trail, especially in the evening. The view of the west down into the valley was neat too. Ran into some peacocks too which was pretty cool.

Aloha! Fun hike. Can be muddy like lots of the ridges out here on island. Definitely not a short one. Microspikes are nice to have. At minimum please wear proper hiking footwear and be prepared. Bring plenty of water and sunscreen. Feel free to reach out to me on Instagram @mike.karas or my email mikekarasphotography@gmail.com for info or other questions. I’ve done most of the hikes on the island before. Also please pack out your trash! Too many litterbugs on the island sadly. Mahalo!

quick jaunt up and back down. best advice was a good pair of shoes & do not go while the raining. if strong wind can also be compromising up top. access trail next to dirt parking/pull off, signs say trail closed. the view was worth the climb.

It was harder than people made it out to be. Lots of dangerous and small paths. One foot to the left or right you quite literally fall off the mountain. Don’t go if the conditions are muddy unless you’re experienced. Took 4 hours and 15 minutes going up to the top. It only gets harder as it goes so make sure you leave early to have enough time to hike back during daylight. Bring a ton of water and take as many breaks as you need the views going up are amazing.

Also, if anyone is doing this legal trail Sunday (preferably because visibility is super clear) or Monday let me know ! I have done it before just couldn’t finish it due to weather conditions. I have a friend visiting who would just be more comfortable if there was a guy (s) doing it with us !!!!

Great hike close to Downtown Honolulu. Definitely moderate for most of the trail, but the loop trail may be considered hard. There were 2 steep sections on the ridge with ropes. The ridge trail is very narrow and over grown but manageable. Watch out for holes, it’s narrow and steep in places. I would agree that counter clockwise is best. The views on the ridge are beautiful. Segments were quite muddy.

This is a great hike with an amazing view the entire way. Park near the lighthouse trail, then walk across the street to start. Stay high along the ridgeline to enjoy a view the entire way. Avoid starting late because there is no shade on this trail.

About 400 yards of beachfront is inaccessible. Nice walk but detours are needed.
