Dog friendly. Fun. Took the road on the way back instead of hiking back again. 4.04 miles instead of 4.6, but still good. Lots of ants, just be forewarned. Would definitely hike again.

Relaxing trail. Easy trail with different plant life

Hiked this trail in Mid-May. Plumerias were in full bloom and incredibly fragrant. This was a garden with an extensive collection of plant material from around the world. The gravel trail was relatively well maintained. The cacti garden was stunning. The hike was easy, as labeled, and well worth the trip.

Groomed trails but gravelly. Excellent plant collection! Bring water. Gentle hills.

Loved this trail, no views but the wooded surroundings are filled with bird song. Very soothing. Nice wide trail, watch your step not to fall on fallen branches etc. would definitely do it again if I lived here!

Amazing hike can’t wait to do the whole thing

HPD is heavily watching and ready to stop anyone from hitting this trail. Would just recommend to find another spot to hike

At first you see beautiful Plumaria trees and then the trail all of the sudden changes into cacti! Makes you think you’re in Arizona.

In several spots there were ants crawling all over the trail. If you stopped, ants would immediately start crawling up your shoe. There are also piles of horse poop periodically spread throughout the trail. The trail is covered pretty much the entire way, so it wasn’t too hot. I would definitely recommend bringing bug spray though. After getting to the end of the trail, I took the road back to the parking lot and there was some nice scenery along the way.

A lot of flowers ! It was really easy and it was a nice Family moment.

HPD was there this morning, and told us that this is now all privately owned land by the state. The HPD guy was nice about it, but told us it is strictly prohibited now. They stay there and actively cite trespassers. DO NOT do this trail.

Forgot to record the first part from Makapu’u lookout. Love this hike though. Today was my first time going all the way through to Waimanalo. Very exhausting.

Really pretty! This is the time of the year to visit (April / spring), with everything in full bloom! There is a nice plumeria bush garden immediately when you walk in, that was the highlight of the whole trail. Super easy brisk walk, with a few tiny hills. It is easy to get lost following the different exhibits and all of the plant name placards. The hike was about 2.4 miles looped but if you took the time to look at all of the plants in the middle I’m sure it could be more like 4.5 miles. I showed up at 5:15pm and saw on Apple maps that it closes at 6pm, not true, the sign says it closes at sunset (assumed to be 6:45pm). There is a parking lot right outside, no need to climb any of kokohead on this easy hike (I couldn’t tell before arriving from the reviews) . It was a cool breezy time of day to go and I only ran into 2 other people, I’d recommend.

The trail got thick with brush 45 min into the hike. Had shorts and trail running shoes. Wish I had pants and hiking boots on. Pleasant, easy trail, aside from the mud. The mid is not too thick or slippery and it rained last night. But enough were I wish I had better shoes.

Pretty easy trail. It's not so much of a loop if you want to see all of the plants.

The botanical garden title is not really deserved except from the Plumeria collection at the beginning of the trail which is not very interesting. Nice walk all the same.

Great for trail running when not muddy. Lots of birds, but no real point of interest. I rarely see anyone on this trail.

A nice easy stroll. The trail can be hard to discern at times. The trail shows a loop, but there are a lot of offshoots which will make you have to back track. All in all and nice hike for young kiddos.

It is pretty obvious that this is not a place that you were supposed to hike! Signs are posted that make it clear and there’s no real entryway.

I only did this to the puka and back because it was SO HOT. Very little shade and glaring sun. Nice view of the road and coast, though.

Easy hike. Wide p ath. A little muddy and slippery. We did about half the trail from Walkupanaha Street. Interesting tropical forest. No real views in the part of the hike we did. That is why I rated it as 4 instead of a 5.

Didn’t go up but.... Saw some people get cited for trying to go up from the Makapu’u Lookout parking lot today. If you’re going up or coming down, don’t do it when HPD are around!

Hiked December 2018, This hike is right across the street from the Makapu’u lighthouse. You’ll have to park in that parking lot and then walk across the street in order to start the hike. You’ll know where it starts because there are like 10-20 signs that tell you not to go up private property. Between the signs and the cop posted up right up the street from where we started, I was almost deterred to even attempt the hike. Anyway, the trail isn’t as noticeable as a lot of the previous hikes I’ve done on the island but if you have this app opened, you should be fine. We only went about an hour in to get to the top, but there is apparently a lot more trail to tackle if you have the time and the adventurous spirit. Also, my wife told me to include that there are a lot of thorns on the trail so if you have sensitive skin or a pair of leggings that you really like, beware. For a short hike this one definitely is underestimated. The view at the top is worth the effort and the thorns you have to endure to get to the top, definitely in my top 10. I hope this helps someone.

Overall this hike is fairly easy. The various forks make it difficult to follow without a download of the map, and there are a few slippery rocks that present some dangerous spots, but it's not too bad. We did not see a single person for at least 7-8 miles of this hike (save for the touristy spots). Some good views and a peaceful retreat, but one of the more boring hikes I've done on Oahu.

Good walk. Would have been better when flower trees were blooming.
