Awesome kayak-hike, it's called China mans hat! not the mokes! as in description. Not for people that haven't kayaked before, kinda hard and a touch of danger. The hike on the Island is extreme if you climb up to the summit! hike around back is great, cool cave in the water. Not recommended for young children.

Would have been 5 stars but we did it on a very hot and very windy day, and we were surprised how hard it was because of the conditions. But, we saw a baby albatross, all gray and fuzzy, nesting...so that was a big reward. On top of the rugged coastline, I thought the view of the point of the mountain was neat, like the bow of a ship - you could see the north and south sides of the island at the same time.

Really enjoyed kayaking and getting to hike this. The reason why I’m rating this a 3 star is because it was super crowded. We also didn’t get to the very top of the island because it was all rock. We weren’t comfortable using a rope to help us to the top when thousands of people have used it. The number thing I suggest is water shoes. Good water shoes! There is no sand just coral reef and rocks. Other than that the experience was amazing and the weather was perfect.

Easy and flat. The point is one of my favorite spots on the island. No shade and long walk back in the dark if staying for sunset. Would bring water, food and a light.

Kaena is a great hike if you go early or it’s a cooler/cloudy day. There isn’t much shade on the trail and the west side can get hot. The best part about the hike is seeing Whales during the winter months and finding Monk Seals at the end. There is also a great chance to see Spinner Dolphins. It’s an easier/flat hike but can become more difficult if it’s hot out. Bring lots of water.

Spectacular views of the Bay. Take a good look at the colors in the bay to determine where you want to snorkel once you get there. Once on the beach and everything is at eye level, it is hard to find the optimal snorkeling spot.

A nice walk down an ATV road takes you to a seabird nesting area. Saw lots of albatross and a monk seal. Nice to be along the coast. Be sure to wear sunscreen as there is no shade.

Nice long walk... beautiful views amazing sea life.

2.5 miles each way, Ka'ena Point was awesome! It's less a "hike" and more a trail walk. We followed the ATV road on our way there. No shade, so definitely protect yourself. The mountains are incredible!! Unlike any other Hawaiian landscape I've seen. Not at all the classic rolling green waves we're used to. The albatross sanctuary was equally cool. You get SO close to the birds, and there's a pillbox at the very tip of the Island for some great pics and views. On the way back, we walked along the water and the surf was awesome! Didn't see any whales or seals as we had hoped, but we took our time along the rocky coast and really enjoyed exploring at our leisure. Took way longer to get back that way, of course. This is something I'll be bringing my 66 year old mom to do when she visits, if that gives you a sense of the difficulty. Highly recommend if you're up at the north shore!

It was everything the other reviews indicated and suggested, good shoes, a walk down the access road.
A light rain met us on arrival. Pretty muddy for 3/4 of the way to the point. Spectacular views, albatross sightings and 1 Monk Seal made it worth it. On the way back, the trails dried out a bit, then half way back, real rain, making for muddy conditions.
A good day.

Great little hike! And I would agree with other reviews that good shoes are a must for a comfortable walk. Also consider sunblock or long sleeve’s because there is no shade whatsoever. Mother nature is at her finest here. Amazing wave action. And the animals did not disappoint. Able to get some good footage of the albatrosses flying overhead. Monk seals chilling on the beach and several whales we’re having fun in the distance. Thoroughly enjoyed the hike.

Great views of the ocean the entire time. Definitely need to wear good shoes as there are a lot of rocks and there is very little flat area to walk.

More of a walk down an ATV road than a hike, accessible to all if you wear good shoes. No shade along the way so bring water. Beautiful views of the North Shore and the mountains along the Leeward side from this tip of O'ahu. Great time of year to see whales and albatross. I've heard that during the summer months you can sometimes see the shadow of Kauai in the sunset. Bring a headlamp or flashlight for the walk back if you come for the sunset. Great place to take visitors for a good dose of Hawaiian beauty.

Easy walk. We followed the shore quite a bit and lovely views and rock formations. There is a protected bird area on the point at the end. Beautiful to view albatross birds in their natural habitat.

Did this on a wet day. Wore slippers which was a mistake because they kept getting stuck in the mud and coming off. I actually had to go barefoot at times which is not advisable for the whole walk. We got caught in the rain which was fine but definitely needed water shoes or tennis shoes.

Easy hike for the whole family. Nice views and lots of wildlife. The bird sanctuary at the end was really cool and we saw a seal napping on the rocks. Take water! It was really hot the day we went and there is little to no shade the entire way.

Amazing view! It’s a little steep and you have to climb rocks to get to the top. There are some trails but for the most part you just have to commit and find your own way to the top!

Gorgeous trail. Take the beach route or trail route.

Only a spot view, not a hike! But is a nice place to see..

If you take the back trail it is more of a challenge and tales longer, but the views are amazing!

Great hiking but watch out for the off-road vehicles. Look for whales on hike. Albatross nests at point and monk seals on beach.

A good distance. I did get dirty but it was well worth it...the area is pretty. The weather was amazing and the elevation isn’t bad at all; almost flat compared to other hikes I’ve complained.

Nike easy hike that most anyone could do. We also hiked the Ka'ena Point Trail (south) as well on the same day. It was a nice trail and great day to do it on with larger than average waves. We discovered a blow hole on the Ka'ena Point Trail (south) side due to the size of the waves.
