Hi! This hike is amazing. I will warn you in the final section there is a very intimidating rock climb involving rope. I’ve seen people turn around there every single time I go up. But the rest is beautiful and worth the challenge. THE BEST hike on the island by far. I’ve done it so many times and I actually have my own hiking tour company on oahu. We specialize in “adventure photography”. You can reach out to us on Instagram @hike.oahu . Basically we’ll take you on this trail or pretty much any hike on the island and also take really cool action shots of you hiking along the way. DM me for more info.

Aloha! Cool hike. Minus the possible trouble. Hopefully they find a way to open the stairs up versus tearing them down and things look promising for that to eventually happen now. It’s a workout! Make sure to wear proper hiking/solid footwear. Bring plenty of water and sunscreen. Feel free to reach out to me on Instagram @mike.karas or my email mikekarasphotography@gmail.com for info or other questions. I’ve done most of the hikes on the island before. Also please pack out your trash! Too many litterbugs on the island sadly. Mahalo!

Aloha! Fun hike. Can be muddy like lots of the ridges out here on island. Definitely not a short one. I hike this trail quite often. Microspikes are good to have. At minimum please wear proper hiking footwear and be prepared. Bring plenty of water and sunscreen. Feel free to reach out to me on Instagram @mike.karas or my email mikekarasphotography@gmail.com if you’d like to join me or for info/other questions about the hike. I’ve done most of the hikes on the island before. Also please pack out your trash! Too many litterbugs on the island sadly. Mahalo!

A little slick. Super easy if it was dry.

Great waterfall hike. One of the better ones on Oahu. Easy and safe parking, sometimes hard to follow the path but manageable, muddy/ rocky at times, but views are pretty awesome at the end. Reach out to me on IG to do a hike @Nsully00

Well worth the drive and easy permit process to do this hike! To answer another person’s question, you do not need a four wheel drive vehicle to get to the hiking trail. Went on 8/1 and there was a recent landslide shortly after it began, but we were able to carefully cross it going in and out without issue. Gorgeous views all along the way. Had our 3 year old with us who partially hiked and partially rode in the carrier, so we ran out of time as it took a bit longer and we weren’t able to explore past the pig gate. Even still, the views up to that point were incredible! One of my favorite Oahu hikes to date.

Great first time! More challenging than I was expecting but doable at your own pace. Bring water and maybe snack to enjoy up top. Trail running down is the best!

We had a lot of fun on this trail we didn't expect the significancant change of vegetations which was really nice. It is an easy hike which is perfect for kids and fur babies. We started clockwise as suggested, there were lots of mosquitos at the beginning of the trail due to stagnant water in the area. Trail starts right before you reach the graffities on the wall. The pave road leads to a dead end.

This hike is listed on AllTrails twice the other under the name “Mau’umae Trail / Lanipo Trail”. What starts off as a nice, well groomed hike, turns into a wet, muddy slog through prickly 6-foot ferns. I would budget 6-7 hours for this. Probably ranks in the bottom of the ridge hikes in the Ko’olaus. The views are pretty epic but the awful terrain detracts from that. Wouldn’t recommend this to any casual hiker, experts only should go the full way. Street parking at the trail head. Wear sunscreen and bug spray. Lots of mosquitoes. Cover your ENTIRE legs, don’t even have ur ankle in between ur socks and pants exposed or they will be destroyed by the ferns. A hiking group needs to go in and re-clear this trail. I brought 2.5L of water and ran out before the summit, had no water on the way back.

Nice, easy (unpopular opinion) trail. Very steep, a few ropes at the beginning to help out. Would do again

Beware of mud and slippery rocks, and the trail isn’t the most well marked in the world so beware of crossing on to another trail all together. You’ll be on a valley floor so it will be humid but bugs weren’t a thing. Plenty of birds singing which was pleasant.

Felt very jungly. Will be VERY muddy if it’s rained recently. Has a couple of stream crossings. Child friendly. Not a bunch of up or down, but still great. The waterfall and swimming hole at the end are what makes this 5 stars. The pool at the base of the waterfall is deep enough for jumping in and there are multiple areas to jump off from as high as you like. There’s a pool at the top of the waterfall and more stream to swim in and explore. Bring a snack, especially with kids. Hiking in water shoes is a good idea.

Caught it dry and beautiful (late July) It’s a healthy climb and if you catch it on a clear day (we did) it’s worth every bit of the climb. The trail is well marked and easy to keep your bearings. It doesn’t hurt that the trail already starts from a high elevation (Tantalus) so you don’t have to hike it from sea level.
