Aloha! I typically hike up 1-3 days a week and have been doing so almost 3 years now. Went up a few times last week and last weekend. I will be going up again Thursday and Friday this week along with this weekend the 20th/21st. I have done this particular hike more than most on island. (over 140+ times) The hike can be muddy and or rainy but we never have any issues as I always provide the proper gear (including microspikes) when we go. Make sure to bring plenty of water and food for this hike and other hikes out here in Hawaii. Feel free to reach out to me on instagram mike.karas or via email at mikekarasphotography@gmail.com

This is an epic hike, specially taking the legal back way. I go up every weekend. Conditions were great last weekend. It can get pretty muddy and windy. Crampons(spikes) recommended, I do have some spare spikes.

A fun hike up. Unfortunately the summit was clouded in. The path was pretty muddy and it made the way down from K2 messy and challenging.

Awesome hike to a well protected dunes habitat. We saw monk seals and nesting albatross.

Best views on Oahu. In March - we could see whales from this trail. Amazing.

It was a nice hike but got really steep at the top, so much so that my in-laws turned back. There’s an awesome bamboo forest at the top, which gives you lots to grab on to at the hardest point. Really pretty hiking through the trees. Enjoyed it a lot and it didn’t take too long.

It was a great hike! amazing views along the way. There were a couple of steep climbs with ropes but otherwise not too difficult. I am not an experienced hiker but am relatively fit and found it was a good hike for my ability.

very beautiful! easy to follow trail through many different types of forest. glad for the shade after too much sun hiking previously...the stairs at top killer, but took ten at a time and made it to the top where gorgeous view and cool breeze awaited. so worth it!

I recommend this trail for anyone looking for a great hike with no crowds. It is easy to follow, very clear at the moment, and aside from being long not too hard. The first mile is up a paved road, the next two miles are a gradual incline with a few ups and downs and the last mile is where it gets steeper but nothing too challenging. From the top you can go over to stairway or head right towards bowman. All in all, great trail.

If you’re looking for a short, fairly easy hike and you want a awesome view then this is the trail for you! There are several trails that intersect inside so you have to be careful not to get lost. Beautiful view of Waikiki and diamond head. We did this with littles and they had no issues.

In several spots there were ants crawling all over the trail. If you stopped, ants would immediately start crawling up your shoe. There are also piles of horse poop periodically spread throughout the trail. The trail is covered pretty much the entire way, so it wasn’t too hot. I would definitely recommend bringing bug spray though. After getting to the end of the trail, I took the road back to the parking lot and there was some nice scenery along the way.

HARD but worth it. Don't go unless you are in decent shape. Bring lots of water as there isn't any at the top.

Great hike. Beautiful views. Met the best hiking partner I've ever had on the way up on the bus, but forgot to ask for her number!! There were less people than I expected on the trail, ground was solid even when slightly wet, but definately not a bad idea to pick the mud out of your shoes before you head down. Took 4 hours with quite a few stops and a snak break. I'm in better shape than average but don't do much cardio and it wasn't too exhausting. I highly recommend. Not too technical, just takes a little wind.

Excellent trail for anyone who is in decent shape (great for families with kids). Most of the trail is wide and well maintained. The last few tenths of a mile were narrow and muddy. Plenty of shade, so even in the middle of the day it’s plenty cool. Great views of the Halawa Valley (and the H3) from the Ko’olau Range all the way down to Pearl Harbor.

Be sure to look for the wreckage of a crashed B-24J WWII bomber that hit the mountain back in 1944 (there’s a placard at the trailhead with a brief history and the crew’s names). There’s not much left other than a large hunk of metal sitting partway down the slope at about the halfway point in the trail as it has succumbed to the elements after 75 years.

Freaking epic. Took me 2 hr 30 mins to hike/jog to top and 60 mins to get down. Some of the best views are just shy of the stairway so I recommend stopping and taking in the scenery about 600-900 feet below the summit. If you are lucky, you will have some cloud cover, just enough to get the Jurassic Park feel. The legal way up is the way to go. Don’t bother risking it to take the stairs. The views are just as good from the back side and you can see everything at the top in any case. It’s closed for a reason. Don’t be a dousche.

Hey All! I'll be visiting from Alaska starting April 18th. I'd love to celebrate the beginning of my trip with this hike on Saturday, 4/20. Will anyone be heading up that day?

A little about me - not in the best shape after recovering from a hamstring tear this winter, but ready to start my hiking season before heading back to Alaska for 24/7 sunlight and lots of summer hikes. I have all the necessary gear, but plan on taking my time and really enjoying the unique landscape. Email me at lilyvhughes@gmail.com or find me on IG: wild_free_wanderer :)
