Length: 0.7 mi • Est. 37 m
Note: This trail has lots of steep areas and cliff faces, so please be careful. The Puka is below the narrow bridge. Its a great short hike, but do not let the length fool you- it is challenging! Though the route is short, the conditions can be windy, extreme, and muddy. The trail that follows a cliff (pali) face up to two notches that supposedly were utilized by King Kamehameha to hold cannons, and to serve as a lookout post. Wear shoes that are sturdy and grip well and look out for falling rocks and loose dirt. remember to test and shake that rock or branch before using it to pull yourself through. Many rocks are cracking and branches are loosening after long use. Not a good hike for kids or pets! This is a risky hike with rock scrambling and people have fallen and been seriously injured in the past. Use good judgement.Show more

Note: Parking is extremely limited in this area. As this is located in a small neighborhood park, we do not recommend driving to the gardens and instead only recommend this trail to locals who can walk/jog to the area.Show more

Length: 2.2 mi • Est. 54 m
Hoomaluhia translates to "peaceful refuge" and this beautiful trail through 400 lush acres really is a refuge that the whole family will enjoy. Due to the steep sections with grades up to 30%, this trail is not tagged as wheelchair or stroller friendly, although the paved sections may be accessible. The trail surface is paved and typically has a width of at least three feet. The average grade is 5%. Use caution on the dirt paths - these can get muddy and have steeper grades than the paved section. If you prefer to drive instead, there are also scenic viewpoints from the road.Show more

The map/description shown here are for an out and back hike. Some hikers choose to do a loop in this area. To do this, continue past the the ending shown in the map here, then go down the trail west towards a neighborhood. The trail will end at Lipalu Street. Then take a right onto Namoku Street. Then another right onto Kaneohe Bay Drive. Then finally a right onto Kokokahl Place, and you have reached the trailhead.Show more
