incredibly muddy. wear clothes u do not mind getting really dirty. hiking shoes will really really help and prevent your feet from getting wet. doable without microspikes or gloves but would probs help. views on the way are just as good as the peak. I got to the peak at about 12pm but was still cloudy. seemed to clear up on the way back so maybe if you want a better view up top start the hike a bit latter. need a relatively good fintess base practice been able to walk for length distances and you should be right :) comming down is easier than going up just take it slow and steady

Very pretty views at the top. A lot of the other ridge hikes have spoiled me with more pretty views along the way. No scrambles needed, very well maintained trail.

A great trail located in the middle of town. The trail is heavily wooded so it is shaded the entire time. It is muddy and you’re walking uphill over a plethora of tree stumps. However there is good footing along the way. I would say this is an easy to medium hike at points. If you are in less than average physical condition, you may find the hike challenging. I go walking maybe four times a week on a zero incline and found this hike perfect for my physical condition. The hike provided moments of elevated heart rates that I loved. It’s slippery because the trail is muddy in spots on the way down so watch ur footing. I hiked in tennis shoes but noticed on this heavily trafficked trail many were wearing hiking boots and or carry a stick or ski poles for added assistance. I did see a dog on the trail and he was having a great time. I would say this trail is not small kid friendly because of the terrain - the parent may end up carrying them . Parking was empty when we arrived early Saturday @ 630am but when we were done the parking was completely full. About 15-20 spots. There are bathrooms at the trailhead and a water fountain and a place to scrub and wash ur shoes when ur done

Beautiful location, loads of colour, the trees and foliage were varied and awe inspiring. There were some views of the city but mostly this hike is about the rock walls growing ferns, the giant trees and the bamboo forest. Expect lots of mud if it's been raining, we wore waterproof hiking shoes and we are glad we did! We did see several groups on this hike but it was also the weekend.

A very big disappointment. Trash through out the trail, shopping cart with junk in the middle of the trail. Surrounding the pool of the water fall were men’s used underwear, match sticks , tampons and other nasty trash. Up on the cliff area there is a tent with a homeless person living there. On the other side is a homeless camp. As we left the area we were looking down the stream on the other side and some druggie guy started yelling .. what! Then started walking towards up in a threatening manner. This place is not worth the trouble.

Aloha! Fun hike. Can be muddy like lots of the ridges out here on island. Definitely not a short one. Microspikes are nice to have. At minimum please wear proper hiking footwear and be prepared. Bring plenty of water and sunscreen. Feel free to reach out to me on Instagram @mike.karas or my email mikekarasphotography@gmail.com for info or other questions. I’ve done most of the hikes on the island before. Also please pack out your trash! Too many litterbugs on the island sadly. Mahalo!

Started off on the ridge trail but took a side path down to a waterfall. Long hike but worth it with the waterfall. Waterfall not on AllTrails so search it on howzitboy hikes YouTube to find it

Does anyone know if this trail is open or if it’s actually closed?! We got to Hawaii last weekend & website said it was closed, it’s apparently closed on the weekdays so we’ve planned on going today but says it’s closed again?! We leave Hawaii today & would love to go! Thanks!

*tour going this Wednesday 2/26* Hi! This hike is amazing. One of my favorite on the island by far. I’ve done it so many times and I actually have my own hiking tour company on oahu. I’d say it’s about 5-8 hour hike. It’s roughly 11 miles round trip. Hard but very worth it. We specialize in “adventure photography”. You can reach out to us on Instagram @hike.oahu . Basically we’ll take you on pretty much any hike on the island and also take really cool action shots of you hiking along the way. DM me for more info.

Well used path, cemented in some parts. Could do a running stroller with bigger tires.

I chose this trail hoping it would be good to do with my baby in the carrier. I'm an experienced hiker and expected a 5 mile moderate trail to be great for us. The trail really was not clearly marked, so after crossing the creek we ended up on a pretty steep incline up the mountain. It was a pretty hard trail, but we totally followed the ribbons and signs with arrows, so I thought we were on track... until I checked my recording and realized we weren't. There were really amazing views this way after hiking probably a quarter mile uphill to the ridge, but there was nothing moderate about it. We turned back and I had to slide down on my butt to keep safe (there was a "rope" that was actually a hose, so. It much grip). We ran into about 5 other hikers in two or three groups at the bottom of the steep incline who were all looking for nu'uanu trail, so I wasnt the only one confused. We ended up going back and trying a different direction, which ended up being kind of the right way, but there were a ton of fallen trees over the creek bed, so we couldnt pass. We looked around and wandered in the jungle a little looking for a way around and couldn't find a safe way. So we ended up heading all the way back to the stream and taking judo trail from there, which eventually led to nu'uanu trail. (Yay!) I figured since we'd spent so much time trying to find the trail we would give it a try, but the trail was so muddy and slick by the first switchback I decided to turn around. By that time, I was so tired from hiking the wrong ways and the mud and trying to keep the baby safe thru all of it that I just decided to give up and have dinner. Though it didnt go as planned, I enjoyed the hike, and so did my baby. It was very shady and very beautiful, though the only real views we got (with our limited time on nu'uanu trail) were from the first leg where we went the wrong way. I'll do a lot of hiking here again without the baby so I don't have a 20lb limp on my back throwing off my balance. And also I'll know where I'm going, which will save a lot of time! Check out my recording and learn from my mistakes!

I did this trail alone and i found it very relaxing. You need to cross a stream in the beginning but it’s very minor. Definitely start out the trail by going right. Get the muddy part out of the way and then wash off in the waterfall!

Aloha, 4 of us are doing this hike on Feb 21st. If you want to join reach out on instagram @karkirat.10 or 780-937-9996

Think Stairmaster on steroids. Make sure you bring lots of water since the hike is very hot during the daytime. There are areas on the trail that are a little bit more difficult than others. But if you at the top are pretty incredible. Great for sunrises

Didn’t feel worth it, it was so crowded (even on a week day morning) that we couldn’t enjoy the views. The food at the bottom was nice though haha.

Tourist trap. I felt like I was in line the every time. You do this in foam flip flops, which a lot of folks did.

Très beaux points de vue chemin asphalté facile d’accès prévoir crème solaire et eau pour tous

This is a short trail off of the main makapu'u lighthouse path. If the wind isn't too bad and the waves aren't too big then it will be a nice dip in the water. A little bit of a scramble but it is very clearly marked on rocks along the path. Overall a great view and a nice little hike.

A very crowded trail, but still well-worth checking it out. There is a very cool section of trail cut through a tunnel, and another long flight of stairs up to the main views. When we went the parking lot was full so we parked in a residential neighbourhood nearby and walked in.

This hike is very difficult on the legs/calves/thighs; however anyone can make it to the top as long as they go at their own pace. I had to stop several times but made it up. The view is worth the hike and much cooler and windier up there. Take your time and enjoy the view at the top because the way down is quite hard as well. Bring water!!! Overall really cool hike, felt very accomplished at the end.

Very steep. The views are epic! Highly recommended. Park at Hanauma Bay before 8am to get a parking space. Cost $1 to park.

Beautiful views from the top! Paved trail with steps at the end.
