Very pretty views at the top. A lot of the other ridge hikes have spoiled me with more pretty views along the way. No scrambles needed, very well maintained trail.

Well used path, cemented in some parts. Could do a running stroller with bigger tires.

Beautiful views. This trail I would say is more moderate than hard. Though rain and muddy conditions can make it slick. It is a very laid back and enjoyable trail. Cheers!

The trail indicated on the map is closed. It belongs to some utility. There is a giant "KAPU" sign on it.

this hike was tough but it was do-able! the views the whole time are awesome and trail is always wide enough, npt dangerous. i highly recommend it

This hike was very manageable until you reach the stairs. From there on, it’s slow moving as you make a steep ascent to the top. The view is amazing and well worth the effort.

This was about five miles round trip and took us 3 hours. I enjoyed the drop offs of the ridge. The views were spectacular! The first mile and a half is a steady and moderate incline, and then there are stairs for about the last mile. It was worth the effort for the payout--You can see views on both sides of Oahu, from Honolulu to Hawaii Kai to Kailua to Chinaman's hat. The trail would be much more difficult after rain. We went on a dry day and had no problem.

Great trail! Shaded right until the stairs. I’m not an avid hiker so the stairs were a challenge— more down than up. Wear good sturdy shoes, fallen pine needles make for some slippery slopes down otherwise.

Longer than all trials says, it was about 5 miles round trip for us. first bit is swtich backs. nice and shaded, beautiful forest hike. lots of birds. no view points until the end. the stairs are washed out a bit, making some of them odd angles, but still do-able. the view from the top is pretty good. we did wiliwilinui a few days prior and preferred that one, but there are a lot more stairs on that one. in total it took us 4 hours, slow going as it was hot today. once you start the stairs you're much more exposed to wind and sun. parking is a residential street. trial head and trail well marked

Fantastic trail! If you are looking for a little hiking challenge but on a path that is wide and well maintained...look no further. Some sections were a little muddy but they were in the flat sections. Showed up about 8am and got the #1/20 spots available for cars. Gate guard was super friendly. He took down my car’s license plate number and took a look at my drivers license. He will then give you your parking pass and a map that shows allowed parking areas. They are very strict on parking, only park in the designated areas. First part of the hike was very easy going. Second part is stairs...and stairs...and more stairs. The end of the trail is about 150m past the tower at the top. There is a nice bench where I sat and enjoyed the view while eating my lunch. On the way back down I ran into quite a few hikers making their way up to the top. Glad I got here to enjoy the hike and view all to myself.

great hike and workout. very challenging, and you end up at the KST, but not scary at all!

The first 2/3 of the trail had a nice steady moderate climb, the harder part is at the very end with steps. Suggest wearing hiking shoes as it was muddy and very slippery in spots. The view is amazing and worth the hike.

This is a great trail with great views at the top. I really liked that this trail has no steep portions that have ropes involved since I did it while it was raining. I was able to get up and down this trail with the rain with no issues. I expected it to be more muddy but it was not bad at all. Definitely will do again

We did the trail after a rainy day. Most of the crossings were flooded. The last 1/3 part of the trail was very muddy. We returned at the trail end and didn’t make it to the stairs to heaven.

2 hrs back and forth. Awesome views at the very top

Although the switch back become tiresome the hike is worthwhile for the ending view in and of itself. Don’t get me wrong, the hike is enjoyable, but the view is breathtaking. A view of Moloka’i, Kokohead, Hanauma Bay, Diamond Head, Kailua, Lanikai and Honolulu. Truly spectacular. The last half mile is steps and are slightly washed out, but still doable at a running pace.

I’m confused — there’re camping permits from this trail available from the state and two listed campsites, but I didn’t find any. I set up my tent first on top of the ridge, which, between the wind and God knows how far of a drop-off to the north, wasn’t fun. There’re occasional spots of bald, flat-ish earth and some vehicle turnouts nearer to the trailhead. Very pretty.
