Aloha! Fun hike. Can be muddy like lots of the ridges out here on island. Definitely not a short one. Microspikes are nice to have. At minimum please wear proper hiking footwear and be prepared. Bring plenty of water and sunscreen. Feel free to reach out to me on Instagram @mike.karas or my email mikekarasphotography@gmail.com for info or other questions. I’ve done most of the hikes on the island before. Also please pack out your trash! Too many litterbugs on the island sadly. Mahalo!

Solo traveler here! Looking for hiking companions or to join an organized group this Thursday morning 2/20 preferably as early as possible. Feel free to reach out on IG @ccstuffington or directly message me 215-688-8504. Thanks!

Hiked the trail on 2/16; trail was in decent condition. Muddy at times, but definitely hikable. Was hesitant to hike due to reviews I read. I don’t consider myself an experienced hiker and have an average fitness level. Did the hike in running shoes. Bring adequate water, snack and watch your step and you should be good!

This hike was very manageable until you reach the stairs. From there on, it’s slow moving as you make a steep ascent to the top. The view is amazing and well worth the effort.

Started at 7:10am and finished around 3:30pm. We were at the top for at least 45 minutes. Would 100% recommend micro spikes for the way down. Did not wear them for the way up. They made a huge difference for the last mile at the top where it’s muddy. It’s doable without spikes but just takes longer and a little more nerve racking worrying about slipping. Wind was very strong and made it sketchy on the ridge but just stay aware of it and you’ll be fine.

I read reviews on this app, before the hike to get a better understanding of terrain and hopefully helpful tips, but all the reviews made it seem like you had to be a expert climber/experienced hiker(not the case) we ran into multiple couples in their late 50’s early 60’s trekking just fine, also lots of tourist saying they heard about it the night before and decided to do it the following morning. !!granted it was muddy and fairly windy towards the top, I would encourage some type of hiking shoe, or slip on spikes. Also it was fairly chilly toward the top I would recommend a light wind breaker/waterproof hoodie! Take A substantial amount of of water some power snacks! Hope this helps!

Great trail! Shaded right until the stairs. I’m not an avid hiker so the stairs were a challenge— more down than up. Wear good sturdy shoes, fallen pine needles make for some slippery slopes down otherwise.

The trail is muddy, and not clearly marked in my opinion. Plus there were a lot of fallen trees on the path which made it difficult to see where to go.

Longer than all trials says, it was about 5 miles round trip for us. first bit is swtich backs. nice and shaded, beautiful forest hike. lots of birds. no view points until the end. the stairs are washed out a bit, making some of them odd angles, but still do-able. the view from the top is pretty good. we did wiliwilinui a few days prior and preferred that one, but there are a lot more stairs on that one. in total it took us 4 hours, slow going as it was hot today. once you start the stairs you're much more exposed to wind and sun. parking is a residential street. trial head and trail well marked

Awesome trail with beautiful views. Lots of scrambling up muddy terrain. Definitely 10+ miles round trip and worth it. Not too kid friendly. Try to stay dry to prevent blisters. Bathrooms at the trailhead but the gate is only open 7am-7pm. I don’t think dogs would do to well on the upper parts (about mile 4-5).

The first 2/3 of the trail had a nice steady moderate climb, the harder part is at the very end with steps. Suggest wearing hiking shoes as it was muddy and very slippery in spots. The view is amazing and worth the hike.

This is a great trail with great views at the top. I really liked that this trail has no steep portions that have ropes involved since I did it while it was raining. I was able to get up and down this trail with the rain with no issues. I expected it to be more muddy but it was not bad at all. Definitely will do again

Anyone doing this hike on Friday, feb 14th? Looking to tag along. IG: Honosensei

Completed this hike 02/13/20. The toughest sections were the sections that were muddy especially close to the end, was literally sliding at some points if you take your time you will be fine. I had running sneakers and this was only my 5th time hiking and I made it. The ropes can be very muddy so gloves may help. I was surprised that going down the same path wasn't that bad at all just not that much space on the ridge when people are coming the opposite way (trail can get crowded with groups). We started at 7:30am and we finished at around 2:45pm and that includes around 30 min of being lost at one of the turns in beggining. The views going up are spectacular. Any questions my insta is @Anteh23

This trail was absolutely unreal! That being said it was also one of the most scary and dangerous things I have ever done!! I am a very experienced rock climber and hiker, so when I say this please do not take it lightly. DO NOT DO THIS DURING RAINY SEASON!! I did it today and only continued because it was too dangerous to go back down.

This was a life-changing experience— however the conditions were super risky. Really muddy terrain, especially towards the top. Until drier conditions arise, I would recommend only very experienced hikers go. We ended up traversing the stairs downward which was arguably safer than turning around. Beware of the guard. He let us go without citation, but we were harassed by someone in the neighborhood despite being super respectful, quiet, not leaving any litter, etc. if you look like hikers, people in the neighborhood may stop you even as you walk on public sidewalks. They will tell you that the stairs are “someone’s lawn,” but it’s in fact the Board Water Supply’s lawn. Even while on the public road immediately following the exit through the fence someone screamed at us. So just beware. This neighborhood has probably and understandably had some bad run ins with disrespectful hikers, but they are now next level.

Great trail! Quite wet/muddy in spots but the view at the end is absolutely worth it! Used GPS most of time. Plenty of parking at trailhead.

Hi! This hike is amazing. One of my favorite on the island by far. I’ve done it so many times and I actually have my own hiking tour company on oahu. We specialize in “adventure photography”. You can reach out to us on Instagram @hike.oahu . Basically we’ll take you on pretty much any hike on the island and also take really cool action shots of you hiking along the way. DM me for more info.
