very beautiful! easy to follow trail through many different types of forest. glad for the shade after too much sun hiking previously...the stairs at top killer, but took ten at a time and made it to the top where gorgeous view and cool breeze awaited. so worth it!

Excellent trail for anyone who is in decent shape (great for families with kids). Most of the trail is wide and well maintained. The last few tenths of a mile were narrow and muddy. Plenty of shade, so even in the middle of the day it’s plenty cool. Great views of the Halawa Valley (and the H3) from the Ko’olau Range all the way down to Pearl Harbor.

Be sure to look for the wreckage of a crashed B-24J WWII bomber that hit the mountain back in 1944 (there’s a placard at the trailhead with a brief history and the crew’s names). There’s not much left other than a large hunk of metal sitting partway down the slope at about the halfway point in the trail as it has succumbed to the elements after 75 years.

One way track to top. No views at all. Cloudy.

Very nice trail! Sadly, it was to foggy/cloudy to see anything at the top! But my wife and myself loved it. But, be warned...those stairs!

A beautiful relaxing and educational stroll.

Could be a five star, depending on what you are looking for. It's a road all the way, so easy hiking - no slipping or twisting ankles, etc. Mile 2.5+ on the way up is pretty steep, and we did it at mid-day in the hot sun, so it was a real work out and bake-fest, but great cardio. It was interesting to start with coconuts trees, head up to dry areas, then temperate forest at the top. Then, around the corner from the camp site, the rainforest starts. Some nice views on the way back down, along with lots of parachutists.

Great hike! Dog and stroller friendly. Minimal shade and hot at the bottom. Cooler and shady up top. The trail is a road all the way up so very easy hike.

First of all the hike is 5 miles, not 4. According to my gps the elevation climb was about 1,750 ft. The hike is decently easy, but it was difficult for my mom who doesn’t have great balance. Lots of roots to climb over and up and big steps up and down on the stairs. Unfortunately it was cloudy so you couldn’t see much at the top, but it looked like it would have been amazing without clouds. Lots of variety in birds and trees, really pretty hike overall.

lots of switchbacks and mostly in the shade until the stairs. picnic area before the hard part begins. stairs were very steep over the last half mile. views at the top of diamond head, koko crater, and waimanolo. we started at 8am and had parking and time at the top by ourselves, but we passed a lot of people on our way down and parking was full down the street when we left.

Just finished this hike today. Pretty epic views. The trail was easy to distinguish. Those stairs at the end though... thought I’d never make it. Once at the top it was totally worth it. I’d wish I’d brought some snacks to enjoy at the top as you embrace the beautiful views. Take water!!!

Great hike! Took a few hours. Felt like we had the whole trail to ourselves. Passed a few groups walking the loop the opposite way of us. Feeling sore but proud to have a 13k hike (before 11am) on my health app.

Good hike if you’re interested in just a nature hike. Not many flowers i was expecting for a botanical garden. Very wide variety of trees though. Overall, good time.

That was a great trail that haven’t gone for a long time. We will definitely come back again soon!

Great day for it. Definitely wait for a dry day. 5.23 miles total with the trail and road back to the car. 2.5 hours with 2 adults and a 5 year old.

It was a fun hike.

Great, well maintained trail with more runners than hikers but all were courteous enough to share the trail. Trail is easy to follow from the trailhead.
Definitely, an easy trail with no difficult areas. Plenty of views along the way and even a few benches to stop and enjoy them for awhile.

Great for trail running cardio or an outing with the kids. Easy path to follow with a few peak a boo views of the H3 entrance and out towards the ocean. We got a dry trail but it’s probably a little tricky when muddy. Regular running shoes for a dry visit should do it but when muddy I bet hiking poles and hiking boots would be helpful. 4.3 miles correct. Moderate correct.

Awesome! Except for the part where I got turned around crossing the river bed!

One if the BEST hikes I’ve ever done and I’ve hiked in places like Norway and Oregon. It offers stunning panoramic views of cascading emerald ridge lines and shimmering teal waters. I thought this hike would be “intense”, but there was a young couple carrying babies on their backs up this ridge! If they can do it, so can you. I would definitely repeat this hike multiple times!

Waaaaaaaaaiiiiiiit for iiiiiiiiiiiiiit... At some points along the way (especially following multiple sets of stairs), you may wonder if you somehow missed the apex. But keep going--the view from the top is panoramic and stunning!!

I didn't get to finish today but it was a beautiful hike that worked the glutes and thighs real good.

Great hike. Steady elevation changes. Saw some interesting things like part of an airplane wreckage and some wild boars. Definitely a good spot for burn some calories.
