Great hike, it’s definitely a bit washed out and muddy, but if you know what you’re doing and have good shoes you’ll be just fine, The view from the top is amazing, the trail continues after the top but in my opinion it wasn’t worth it to keep going. It was just more of the same Forest you passed through in the last 2 miles. 5 stars, highlight of my trip

This trail doesn't really take you close to the blow hole, not really anything to see on it. Theres multiple little trails so make sure you know your way back to the parking lot.

Great hike. First stretch out of the parking lot is tough uphill with no shade but it quickly evens out.

Basically walking down a dirt road that people drive on. And end up at peoples property.

Fun quick hike. Like the name says, you cross the creek and boulder hop quite a bit. Nothing difficult as it hadn’t rained in a while. When the creek forks, go left to the waterfall. The rope to the 2nd waterfall was too high up to grab.

Steep in the beginning and steep at the end, but nice for the majority in the middle. make sure to have some legitimate shoes, as it can get muddy and slippery in some spots. As others have said, to find the entrance, go up to the hut and look for the sign that says not to enter. The trail is behind it. Just ignore the sign and hop the fence, it's okay.

very easy trail. more like a walk through a garden. very nice swimming pools built by locals using rocks to block parts of the streams. go for the swim.

mostly walk in the forested area. some step climb. view a bit better than what you get at the start. lots of bugs.

Challenging only in that it is steep. We started this hike around 3 pm and it was lovely. Plenty of shade. Reviews that say no shade must be from folks who parked at the lower parking lot. It is about 3/4 miles from lower lot to trail head and all exposed. But trail itself has plenty of shade. Park at the upper lot! All Trails a bit inaccurate: distance RT was 5 miles on my Fitbit, not 4 miles. Also, elevation did not have a dip at the end as shown in AllTrails. Trail ends in a lovely 360 view. Your reward after steep climb is awesome views and much easier walking on the way down. Waterfall: there is a bench about a mile in from which you can see a waterfall in the distance. The hike does not go to a waterfall. If you can avoid, do not approach from the west. The road is VERY narrow and winding. We had trouble at one point: too narrow for cars to pass in both directions.

Great hike! Try and get all the way to the end assuming weather and rain are not an issue. Its not a scramble at the end despite the comments I've read - just a bit steep and poles would be helpful. At the top is a 360 view and grassy. I should have brought a lunch. The trail also goes further than whats recorded here but I didn't get that far.

Awesome “secret” trail behind the rail of the parks scenic viewpoint. There is a short opening for a view on the right early in the trail for those not wanting to go the whole way. The trail was slick in spots despite it being a dry day and very narrow bordering claustrophobic in the more forested places. There were a lot of bugs in areas that trees had dropped fruit onto the trail but they didn’t bite us. The last bit before the top is the steepest climb but worth it for the Jurassic park like views.

Parking for the actual trail is almost non-existent. We tried to park roughly 3/4 mi away, but couldn’t safely get to the trail head due to risk of falling rocks and unstable ground

Muddy(you know cause it’s a tropical island). Nothing more than a medium difficulty hike, great view if the clouds clear. But still really Great Hike to do and the crowds are minimal by Maui standards. Go early to avoid heavy clouds, and spot some awesome helicopter action.

get there early so you can park in the upper parking lot. Beautiful views all the way up. View of double waterfall at first bench to the right. Little muddy in places. Great hike.

wouldn't really classify this as a trail. more of a nature walk on a paved pathway.

really awesome trail, do it in the morning. well maintained. switchbacks got kind of annoying toward the end. Make sure to say hi to Murray the Mongoose at the very top by the picnic table.

Great trail. Well maintained with great views. Be prepared for very little shade and a good amount of elevation gain. There’s a nice picnic table at the top that would make for a great lunch spot.

Very good hike. Steeper than anticipated but worth it for the multiple views!

First, this was not moderate- this was HARD. Terrain is uneven and can be slippery. The views are incredible. Here’s what I suggest for an easier time: Sunscreen Hat Water Get there before 8 am as it gets very hot and the parking fills up quickly. The walk from the parking lot to the trail head is no joke. If you can’t make it up there, this hike is not for you.

I don't typically promote or partake in "off trail" hikes but this is a well worn, fairly obvious path that gives its users unparalleled views of Iao Valley! Once you go into the forest and lose sight of the valley you have a solid 1-1.5 hours of steady incline ahead of you. Soil type can be clay like and very dangerous when raining or directly after recent rainfall so check weather apps and the sky periodically. If you make it up the first bit of trail and are stoked with what you've seen don't feel bad about calling that your summit and turning around! The overgrown forest section afterward wasn't very rewarding or interesting in my opinion. Don't expect cell service but do pack plenty of water as the vertical climb and uneven terrain are taxing. I stopped short of the intended summit (my partners continued on and showed my photos...meh) because it requires some clamoring I was not comfortable doing but overall I'm happy for this experience and recommend it for anyone wanting a spectacular view of Iao Valley! Remember $5 for parking as this is a state monument.
