Not too muddy now! Great views and a decent height to climb. Bring a good amount of water with you

Great challenge for the occasional hiker! Went Day after big rain storm and it was a little slippery but nothing hiking shoes can’t handle. First 3/4 to the cross was consistently an aggressive incline. Last 1/4 to the cross flattened out and was able to run most of it. After the cross trail is very narrow and brush covered, mild incline able to move quickly through it. Definitely worth making it to the fence at the end of the trail. Only an additional few minutes to it. Incredible views, excellent spot to send a drone up if you bring one. On the way down I was able to run about 1/2 the total hike until it got a bit to slippery for a fast pace. This isn’t a very long hike but is absolutely worth doing. Started at 7:30a, spent 30+ mins at top flying the drone, at the bottom by 10:00a. Parking is not available directly at the trail start, I parked 3/4mi. Down the road at a church. This address will give you where to park: 2499-2287 Main St, Wailuku, HI 96793. Enjoy!

Short hike to a fantastic spot. The olivevine pools were a bit rough today but we were able to get in the water a bit. Really cool spot.

We did this hike after a storm and were very disappointed that the community workers hadn’t raked the forest. This is extremely dangerous as eucalyptus is highly flammable. We could have spontaneously caught fire if the forest wasn’t fortunately damp from the day before. However, the weather caused a lot of trees uprooted and although you can see them clearly due to the size, I almost tripped over a twig that was sticking out across the trail. On second thought, we’re just kidding. Yeah, there was a lot of debris after our storms here but it’s an absolutely beautiful trail and hike. Aloha.

First waterfall is beautiful but it’s not what I would consider a hike, more like a viewpoint. I tried to get to the second one until I got stopped by local farmer, it’s a private property and it’s fences all over the place. But I guess if the weather condition was better I would have had been able to cross the river and get there, but this time it was so rapid that I had to use the cable line if I wanted to get over, don’t do that if you don’t have permission.

Amazing hike! You get to see three waterfalls. The last one you have to swim about 150-200 feet and then climb over a smaller water fall to get to the third one. If you having problems finding where to go, look for a rope on the left hand side facing the first waterfall.

This was a great adventure! Easy trail to find and fun to climb over the rocks. The waves were amazing as the water crashed into the Dragon's teeth! Definitely worth checking out! The views were amazing!

Remember Going down is voluntary... Great views. I loved how the cloud formations changed through the day. Challenging climb out.

This trail has breathtaking views of shorelines, the valley and distant waterfalls, we don’t hike much but this made us want to do it more. There are some parts that are very muddy towards the start but you won’t slip if you’re careful. The top was amazing and there’s a bench that can be used for little spot for lunch or snacks.

The reviews are accurate in terms of difficulty because of some difficult footing but a beautiful hike with lots of views. Keep to the right hand fork if you are time limited as it offers better views of the ocean with quite a few side lookouts of ocean. Other worldly is a good description I see on other posts and recommend sunscreen for fairer folks as there is little cover except on the first half mile or so. Lava kicks off lots of heat so bring a good size bottle of water.

Beautiful hike with lots of views. Some distant views of water falls and a great lookout at top with a picnic table for a short rest. Hiked the trail on 2/17/19 and was raining off and on during the hike so was muddy. Trail was a bit slippery in spots on way down but nothing too bad. Good hiking shoes or boots recommended but lots of folks braving the trail in lesser footwear.

Went on this hike since we’re staying at the Ritz and didn’t rent a car. I’ve been on WAY better hikes in Maui and would not recommend this. We went around 7AM and might have been the first on the trail that morning. I had to walk with a stick in hand to try to clear out the millions of spider webs. Plus side - I got in a shoulder workout. As others mentioned there are limited views. This was a very meh hike. Would not do it again. Ended up only doing about 4 miles round trip because I was sick of walking through webs.

Good trail, it's easy and has nice views. Mostly flat. We went after several days of heavy rain and the trail had muddy spots but was quite good. This trail would be good for all ages.

Great hike. But beware. Nude hikers abound. They are not shy and if you are like me, and lack the maturity level to venture onto little beach, approach the cinder come from the east and then backtrack. Watch a couple of episodes of naked and afraid and attempt to prepare yourself for what lays ahead.

Great hike! Wouldn’t recommend on rainy day. Steep drop off in places and wouldn’t be safe. We went the day after a week of rain. Very muddy. Hiking shoes above ankles recommended. Amazing views at the top!

FYI: This trail traverses Big Beach (family) and then Little Beach, which is clothing optional. That isn’t really an issue, but the trail fades out and becomes difficult to follow. You will encounter nude hikers, high surf, and beautiful vistas. I eventually turned around and backtracked.

February 11, 2019 Must persevere to the end, the waterfall is worth it! Cross the stream at least 16 times each way. Just walk through the stream and have some dry shoes to change into after the hike. Walking stick was super helpful. Take the left branch of the river at the fork. Stream gets about 3 feet deep in places. Went after a pretty big storm though. Loved the little bamboo forest too!

Feb 12, 2019 Very good trail with some phenomenal views: Big Beach, Little Beach, cliffs views from above, beautiful! Agree with word of warning, if you are not comfortable with the optional clothing setting of Little Beach. crossing the beach was not so bad but quite a few unclothed people were also up in the forest part where you are walking. We started from Big Beach and then you climb up the cliff to the north and then over to Little Beach. The backside after the forest has the slippery dry red dirt. we kinda jog stepped down.

If stairs aren’t your thing, there are about 175 of them (up and down). But the whole trail is otherwise very well-maintained, with adults and kids (I went at 9am) making it populated, but not crowded. The view of the needle is the best part followed by lots of river views.

Very nice walk along the coast. Especially good if it’s a high surf day - plenty of crashing wave action. Certainly doable for all ages, just a bit of rock walking, so better shoes than flip-flops would be good.

Easy trail that starts from the DT Flemming beach parking lot. Much of the walk goes through the Ritz-Carlton grounds. The last bit through the Dragon’s Teeth is more challenging. Had good boots and intended to make it to the point, but a squall came up and it was too much for us. I highly recommend the hike for great ocean views, especially if the surf is up. You’ll want to have boots to walk the last bit on lava rocks.

Nice hike. Quickly get up high enough for a clear view of the ocean. Simple scenery but very mystical. I’d definitely recommend more than sneakers. It was raining lightly on and off and portions of the trail were quick slippery and muddy. Didn’t quite get to the windmills because the weather got a little nastier around the last ridge and we decided to turn back. Also, as far as difficulty would rate moderate versus hard. Would recommend.

Thu Feb 14 2019

Definitely worth doing: steady but fairly easy uphill, beautiful and enormous banya tree, enchanting bamboo forest, and an about 400ft tall waterfall at the end. Trail is easy to follow and even had a few wildflowers.

To start the hike, make sure it’s low tide. Otherwise, your path will be inaccessible. We recommend going to the very first lookout and stopping there. Going any further will lead you into a nude beach that is NOT FAMILY FRIENDLY. On our hike, we didn’t know that this nude beach existed so we ventured further than we should have and saw multiple nude people walking on the path... one couple was even acting inappropriately (lewd). The upper return path is highly overgrown and dangerous (in our opinion) due to the loose gravel and steep incline. This return upper path was also very hard to find and continue on... we actually gave up and took the incoming lower path back (again causing us to pass right through the nude beach). Make sure if your return time lines up with low tide, also, so that you’ll be able to get across the section that would be inaccessible at high tide. The views are great though, so if you can get past the nude beach aspect and rock scrambling it does have a payout for pictures along the coastline.
