This trail was more precarious than I expected—assumed it would be muddy but not so much the slippery terrain with rocks. Also, longer than expected with it being a little over two miles one way. I would definitely recommend water shoes and if you plan to play in the falls water hole, resources for that. Expect to get muddy and for it to take longer to traverse than a clear path four mile hike.

Well worth the drive and easy permit process to do this hike! To answer another person’s question, you do not need a four wheel drive vehicle to get to the hiking trail. Went on 8/1 and there was a recent landslide shortly after it began, but we were able to carefully cross it going in and out without issue. Gorgeous views all along the way. Had our 3 year old with us who partially hiked and partially rode in the carrier, so we ran out of time as it took a bit longer and we weren’t able to explore past the pig gate. Even still, the views up to that point were incredible! One of my favorite Oahu hikes to date.

Nice, easy (unpopular opinion) trail. Very steep, a few ropes at the beginning to help out. Would do again

A beautiful, long hike, amazing!! Not for the weak, wesr good hiking shoes! Best to park cars at both trail heads, Nu'alolo & Awa'awapuhi and start at Nu'alolo to Cliff Trail and out from Awa'awapuhi, I've found this to be the best way, then drive back to the car at Nu'alolo. This is an extreme hike, but incredibly satisfying! Bring lots of water & snacks or lunch, take your time and enjoy, go to both vistas. Remember to take your rubbish with you and respect the place, mahalo!

A hard challenging hike, but definitely worth it! Must be conditioned and able to make the hike out, it's no joke!! Bring lots of water & snacks or lunch for the Vista, the view is amazing! Wear shoes with good traction for the climb out, take your rubbish with you and respect the place, mahalo!

Felt very jungly. Will be VERY muddy if it’s rained recently. Has a couple of stream crossings. Child friendly. Not a bunch of up or down, but still great. The waterfall and swimming hole at the end are what makes this 5 stars. The pool at the base of the waterfall is deep enough for jumping in and there are multiple areas to jump off from as high as you like. There’s a pool at the top of the waterfall and more stream to swim in and explore. Bring a snack, especially with kids. Hiking in water shoes is a good idea.

We got there today 08/01/20 around 10:30 and there was a mud slide about 10 minutes into the trail. We had to go back and tried another route. Unfortunately we could not find a way around the mud slide and had to do just take a walk around the 4x4 road.

Fun switchback trail! Not a lot of shade so it gets pretty hot but you start to get a breeze the higher you get up. We went to the water tower and back. Was about 4 miles total. Beautiful views even enjoyed watched the gliders fly around.

Relatively short but modest climb with amazing views of north shore Maui. Cloud coverage is sporadic, and can roll in quickly. Try to get up to the top no later than 1:30pm

Nice trail, with moderate shade, and amazing views along the way. We took a break at the picnic table since we had kiddos with us. The table is about 1.45 miles from the start, then kept hiking up towards the right to the water tower for about another half mile, then turned back. It can be pretty steep with the mileage we did, we hit about 1300ft of elevation gain, but bring plenty of water and snacks and you’ll be okay.

This is a tough hike but the view is definitely worth it. Going for the sunrise is best but it’s very popular even then. You have to find street parking a ways away because the trailhead is in a residential neighborhood and there is a security guard watching the entrance. The hike itself is a scramble uphill where you have to use ropes to pull yourself up. It’s definitely a challenge but fun. The view from the top is absolutely amazing.

Was there in February. Absolutely breathtaking views and areas to stop and explore. Drive slow and be cautious of others since the road is narrow and at times a bit terrifying but so worth the adventure! A must do in Maui!

Love taking pups on this hike, great for off leash. Slight incline the entire way. It is a known dirt bike trail so if you do decide to bring doggos, remain vigilant and respectful to allow for easy passing for both parties.
