This trail was awesome. Definitely challenging for the distance but not overly difficult. The views were absolutely amazing!

It was difficult to find the last 0.1 mile to the edge of the mountain. We thought the trail is the end when we arrived at picnic shelter. Another hiker was also looking for the rest of trail to the top of rocks. Finally both we found it because a few people just came back from the end of trail. The view from the top was awesome! My feet was shaking though lol. On the way back, it completely dark at 7:30pm and my husband and I were pointing iPhone flashlight our steps. Then guess what happened? I heard rustle of bushes and GROWL “grrrrr....” very close!!! I’ve only heard one at Zoo!! I was so panicked and just run so fast!!! We still don’t know what kind of the animal was... but probably a wild dog. This is the scariest moment and best memory in Kauai.

Great Trail! Mix of sunny and shady areas. It can get pretty muddy, but hiked it in Chacos! Once you make it to the top, there are great views of the shoreline and then mountains on the other side! There are some lookouts with benches, so this trail is super doable for everyone!

Shaded hike about 90% of the time, but the trail gets muddy because of that. The mud isn’t as bad as it is on some other trails. The waterfall is pretty cool to see. You can swim in the river it pours into.

WE LOVED THIS TRAIL. It reminds me of the movie Swiss Robinson Family. There is another review talking about not cliff jumping off of the first waterfall, please don’t do that. This is another reminder to be safe while hiking. The entrance to the second waterfall can be a little tricky. After you see the waterfall, about 50 yards later you take a left and basically go straight down. It seems scarier than it is. The roots and branches are plenty strong for navigation. Take it slow and be safe. The pool of water and waterfall are 100% worth it.

Amazing view and pretty easy hike compared to the other out and back elevation gains in Kaua’i. HOWEVER! Here note. There are a two sleeping giant trails. We took this one which is the sleeping giant east. As you are doing the trail, there is an arrow in the rock. It seems deceiving at first, but that is the correct way to go. It’s the hardest of the climb. There are other climbs you can do, but not mandatory to get the views from the top. Also, psa, take bug spray, and hike with appropriate shoes (NOT FLIP FLOPS).

Great hike/walk to catch the sunrise...

Fun hike but the trail can be very muddy. Wear good hiking shoes with tread. Don't wear flip flops. Bring a swim suit if you want to swim at the last fall. there is a rope swing and our teenagers had fun there.

Great trail but very slick, slippery, and definitely muddy. View is worth the clean up when all said and done. Highly recommend.

Rope swing was so much fun. Beautiful falls. Not as muddy as I expected. Had a ton of fun swimming at the second waterfall

Great hike with amazing 360 degree views...

We did this one last year. Our first hike as a family. Was relatively easy. There was one place where we had to scale a 7 foot face. But nothing too bad. Was a very fun hike. Our youngest was 8 at the time. He made it without a problem. You have to go all the way to the chin of Sleeping Giant. Great photo op.

Great tropical nature trail! Lots of birds, plants and amazing trees to view on the way up to the top. Spectacular views! Worth the muddy and humid walk.

It's fairly easy to get to the first waterfall. The second one is a little further (approx 2 miles from the trailhead) and can be muddy at times. The second Waterfall is where they filmed a scene from Jurassic Park and is pretty cool to sit on top of it. I can't stress this enough...Dont Jump off the first Waterfall!! After it rains, large rocks and debris fill the bottom and you can't see them unless you snorkel the area first. People die and are injured here constantly. Just because you're on vacation doesn't mean you're invincible. Respect the Land and you'll be fine

This is a really great hike with a beautiful view at the top. It is only (aprrox) 1.8 miles, but you're hiking up the entire time so it can be exhausting to those not used to climbing. Bring plenty of water. Many people also miss the small cave at the top. It is directly under the top of the mountain. Right before reaching the top there is a small path to your left which will take you to it. Check it out, it is a great place for pics!

The second best hike on Kauai! This is a very difficult hike and is easy to get lost on. Once you enter the forest you will follow the path for approx 500 yards before your first river crossing to your left. You will see the trail on the other side from where you are, but most people miss this, just look for a piece of steel sticking out from the river...this is where you cross. If at any time you feel like you're on the wrong path, (you probably are) just remember to keep following the river and you'll pick it up again. There are several trails that climb up towards the mountain, Stay Off of these!!! you always want to be down close to the river. Look for the piles of rock to point you in the right direction. The trail will be muddy and you will be crawling through and over a literal Jungle Gym. The safest way to navigate through all of this is by going barefoot, a lot of people injure themselves from wearing the wrong shoes. Bring plenty of water and snacks, and definitely avoid this trail if it's raining, because flooding here is a very real danger.

This is a cool little hike back to two water falls. The first one is about 1/2 of a mile from the trail head and it seems to be the most popular place for those willing to jump off the surrounding ledges into the deep but narrow pool. The actual Hoopii Falls is another 1/2 mile. People were swimming here also. There are good views of both falls from above and below. The trails conditions were muddy and it rained while we were hiking but is definitely doable. Good foot holds and roots to keep you from slipping too much. The surrounding flora and river provide a good jungle vibe. Enjoy!

Slipped down to the secret falls and was super pretty!!

Pretty steady and fun hike!

For those seeking a challenging hike through fallen trees, mud, running water and boulders this hike is for you. The trail is difficult to follow, and sometimes requires you to cross the river. My advice is to wear good shoes that you don't mind getting muddy and wet, and stay to the left as much as possible on your way up.
