From photos and other reviews no doubt this is a fun and beautiful jaunt. Sadly, it is still closed.

Easy! Bit muddy. Don’t swim at the beach - the waves and currents are too strong. Also be careful on the rocks down the bottom as the tide can get high without warning. A good beach to just chill out with friends and play a few games.

Great hike! A big workout as there are lots of inclines on the way out and back too. There wasn’t too much mud - only at the beginning and near the 2 little creeks you have to cross (just walk on the branches and you won’t get wet). The views are spectacular. Waterfall is lovely too - the other reviews say it’s not worth it but I thought it was great!

It was a great hike all the way to the top. À Lille bit of rock climbing to get to the last part. Muddy at the beginning of the trail.

Epic vista at the end. Muddy AF in patches right now but dried out some thanks to the recent perpetual sunshine. Grab your walking stick before you start and prepare to climb steeply on your way back up after the most stunning views reward your decent.

Lots of fallen trees due to recent storms, watch your step in most places. Like every other trail in Kauai, it’s muddy so be prepared to get dirty - wash shoes and legs in the river down near the parking. BEAUTIFUL views. We ran some of the trail where it was least muddy.

We hiked this trail today and it was absolutely breathtaking! The trails were fairly dry except in some areas but I can see how much harder this hike could be if it was wet or raining. We used walking sticks and took our time on the descent. You want good hiking boots!!! The views at the end are absolutely worth it and you also get a few good views of Niiihau and Lehua on the hike in. I would rate this as difficult due to the climb on the way back and also if it were wet and muddy it would be a lot more dangerous! I def recommend going when it’s dry! Bring lots of water and save it for the hike back! Also lunch is a good idea, we only brought a few snacks and found ourselves pretty hungry by the end! Took us about 5 hours round trip with about a 45 minute rest at the cliffs! Also wear sunscreen!

Did this a week ago after rainy days. Definitely glad I had my boots and hiking sticks. Made it to both falls. Okay to hike there if gate open. Some trees were down due to storms so some scramble involved.

A not too long great trail with some boulder scrambling at the end but so worth it. Hiked here to beach today after a few days of no rain. Not many people. Access to trailhead well marked. Moderate trail.

Great hike! Fairly accessible for most. At the beginning there is one spot with some steep steps, but once you are up it’s reasonably flat. Definitely bring a hat and water—almost no shade at all The coast is stunning. One could easily stop every 100 feet to take a photo. Saw some fun crabs in the rocks. I could have done without hiking by the golf course.

Only knock on this trail is the long walks on logging roads that not only impinge on the beauty but make big ruts that are very muddy if not filled with water. The lookouts on the walking trail are worth the venture though with great views of the canyon and you do get rewarded with a view of the top of the waterfall you can see on the road in. Hard to get any view of the main waterfall but there is a nice small headwater and if you don’t mind the climb down you can perch out and look over the first main drop of the falls (guessing 300-400 feet). It should be noted that if time limited you can do a much shorter walk down from the lookout that is just a bit higher than the parking for this hike and will avoid the logging roads.

So muddy! Just walk through the mud pools if you’re not worried about getting dirty - saves a lot of time. We did this on a tour and found it amazing - we learnt so much so I recommend going with a tour (only costs ~$50). The falls were quite strong and cold so be prepared for that! The kayak was fun too! We were told the trails are always somewhat muddy, even in the dry season due to the lack of sunlight most of the trail gets, so just do it!! The hike itself is quite easy.

The road in is in very good shape today, lots of pot holes in the first 100 yards then washboard. Can be done in a rental car no problem, if you go fast enough you just hit the hi spots.

The review by G DR below has good instructions, it helped us. Stay left after getting out the second batch of bamboo. After this you will have to cross, you’ll see what looks like an overgrown trail with tons of down trees, go through here, much easier than the boulders. After this it’s pretty much winging it through going across the river and finding whatever paths can be seen from your point. 4 stars because it was a very fun hike, we climbed trees and boulders, crossed the stream multiple times( it was raining and the current wasn’t that bad) and great plant diversity. Not 5 because the trail isn’t really laid out, it helps to run into people along the way. The falls at the end were very pretty, although the Awa’awapuhi hike was much better to me.

Gorgeous hike. The views are stunning and the trail is properly rated given some steeper sections. I enjoyed the golf course section as it gave me an opportunity to check out course conditions which looked excellent. Regardless this section is relatively short. We did see a Hawaiian monk seal on the return enjoying the sun. This hike follows the shoreline and we found it easy to follow and was a relatively easy hike. We ended up continuing past the end of this trail in attempts to hike out to Kawelikoa Point but did not bring enough water to get that far and had to turn back a mile ore two short of the final summit. Lesson learned, bring more water than you expect to use on any hike in Kauai, you may decide you want to go farther than you planned, every turn brings you new views that you want to see. For those who want to continue the hike past the first barb wire fence is easy enough to get around but the trail gets more difficult once past the second fence with some prickly bushes and steeper climbs. Again these fences are not part of this trail. With added hiking we did past the end of this trail it was almost 20 km ( 12.5 miles) out and back. To get to Kawelikoa Point from the start of this trail would likely be close to 25 km out and back.

What’s passion? It’s being scared, but allowing the adrenaline to kick in to push away your fears. It’s scrambling & playing limbo between narrow tree branches, squeezing between bamboo forests, slipping on smooth boulders, crossing rivers waist deep with rapid currents, welts from jagged tree branches, swollen bug bites, scabs from falling, caked in mud, butt bruises from crashing into wet hard trunks, wet sloshy hikers, getting lost in unmarked sketchy trails, tropical rainstorms, fighting delirium & dehydration, endless hours of hiking with new friends. This is not an easy hike. I don’t mean cardio blast. It was not a cardio challenge, but it was a scramble. There are no trail markers and we got lost often and quickly. It was worth “every breath and step” to view the 3 cascading waterfalls. It was even more refreshing and amazing to wade in the pool in front of one beautiful vibrant waterfall. The road less travelled is the one we took. Passion = Paradise

Solid hike with good views of the ocean on a clear day. Started on the East side (google maps will take you there), and we hiked to the top in abt 1.5 hrs. For best views keep going pass the shelter another 10-15 minutes. On the way back, we went down the West side (clearly marked once you start going down), and that trail had stunning forest that was worth it (total trip down 1 mile). We then went back up the West trail, got on the East side to get back to the parking lot. DO NOT WEAR WHITE OR NEW SHOES and don't hike if you want to stay pretty! Total hike time: 4hrs 30mins (includes lunch break).

Started this hike at around 9:15 this morning and it pretty much rained the entire way to the end. It was foggy and there were no views until we got to the end and the sun broke through. The views were spectacular and the Napali coast never gets old. The only reason this trail doesn’t get 5 stars is that it’s extremely overgrown and very difficult to follow. There are many trails leading off of the main trail and the one we originally followed (blue tape) led to nowhere so we just had to bushwhack our way back to the trial. I recommend downloading the map off AllTrails and referencing it frequently to not get lost like we did.

It started raining just after we started going down from the nose of the giant. It was very muddy but still rewarding. I’d say if it were not from the pouring rain it would be a moderate hike. The view from the top was worth it!! We took our time during the hike and at the top and it took us about 2:45.

This is an old review but did this hike a few years ago. It’s easy in the sense it’s short and you ascend quickly. The descend is not bad but the trail was not well maintained nor easily marked. So on the way down we took a wrong turn and came down the wrong side of the mt. We were 5 miles away from the car and ended up having to hitch hike back. However the views at the top were worth it and when I make it back to Kauai, I’ll accomplish this one fair and square!

Other trails around here were closed so we tried to go to this trail. When we were trying to park near the bridge where other cars were parked because there was a sign saying local traffic only which I thought meant visitors should park and walk to the trail, a strange woman in a whie truck took a picture of us and another guy who passed by told us that we couldn't park there and that woman tried to get us fined. If visitors can't go to a public park, they need to put up a clear sign instead of taking pictures of strangers. Why not just close the trail if visitors can't visit?
