Take your time, it’s a short “hike”. Nice view points. We went at 4pm, it was perfect shade, nice weather, little rain that gave us awesome rainbows

Great hike. Very unique experience of climbing by water falls. Very intense hike if you are not in good shape (like myself). Start early and make sure you have enough day light. Bring enough water and snacks. Very muddy at places.

Paved path and man made stairs for most of the “hike”. I recommend just paying the $5 for your car and park in the lot vs walking the rd to save $. Views were nice of Waikiki and the city. Did it only for the sake of saying I’ve done it and that’s about what I got out of the experience! Prob will not go again but why not right?!

Man what a beast. I don’t consider myself and wife as novice hikers but this trail was a bit rough. The first half is what you expect. Ups and downs with beauty laying wait around every turn. But after that, the real adventure begins. Mud, sometimes unclear trail, and numerous spots to slip and fall off a bank of some sorts. My wife checked her health app on her phone when we were done and said that we did over 11 miles. Which I think might be closer to the truth. If it was really 8 miles round trip then I guess we are horrible hikers that took way to long. Started at 9.30 and finished around 3.45pm. Swam at the falls which was cold but greatly accepted. My advice. Do it! Take your time, watch your footing, and enjoy the hike. It will definitely test your nerves at some points but don’t give in and turn back. Also with reading other reviews, beware of weather and the river crossings bc the actual trail to the falls is a bit hazardous and there are signs saying with heavy rain the current in the river can be strong. One last thing bring plenty of water!!!!!!! We burned through 3 liters each!

Easy and fun to hike, but very crowded

Glad we woke up before sunrise to start this hike. We started in the dark and were basically the only ones on the trail until we met up with the west trail. The muddy, slippery spots were carefully done using poles and wearing hiking shoes with grippy treads. There’s a short rock wall you need to pass which was easier coming down than going up, and another steeper rock climb towards the top. I wouldn’t chance it if it’s super muddy, slippery near there. But once you do, the views are phenomenal! We got halfway up when the sun rose. The entire trek took us a little over 3 hours round trip with time up top to meditate and enjoy the view. The heat and humidity made it difficult, but because we had an early start, it didn’t get unbearable until after 9. A machete at the beginning would have been great to get through the thick tall grass. Poles, decent hiking shoes or trail shoes, lots of water and a snack, and bug spray would suffice. Enjoy the wild flowers and cocoa beans near the top. Start early. You’ll thank me afterwards.

Easy, we did a sunset hike beautiful at the point. Don't forget a light for the walk back

really really fun hike. if you want a decent challenge to introduce you to hiking on Oahu, this is absolutely the one to do.

best hike I've ever done in my life. definitely need to take it slow and understand your feet in mud. I did it with boots and an adjustable walking stick/staff whatever you call them. can't imagine doing it without it unless you go way slower. I'd say there and back took me 8 or 9 hours. genuinely one of the best experiences of my life. unspeakably beautiful.

My wife and I tried hiking down this trail in mid-October. We never made it down because it was very steep and muddy. We decided to call it off after realizing that it would be extremely challenging to get back to the top. I admit we were not prepared. DO NOT try hiking this in flip flops.. You will have a very miserable experience. The trail is very narrow (not well traveled). I’d love to attempt it again if I ever come back to Kaua’i. Recommendation is to bring hiking sticks and boots with lots of traction. This is a hike. A short one but a challenging one if it recently rained. Come prepared.

Great hike with a little of everything. After crossing about ten times it is difficult to determine where the trail is, at that point we just walked up the streambed to the waterfall and swimming hole. There are ropes to get to the second tier of the waterfall, it was an easy climb up bit a little sketchy getting back down.

Looking to hike with somebody this week with another group of 1 or two. Its just me and my girl friend. Email idavidmei@gmail.com

Great all around hike. Challenging physically, great views and some scrambles. No shade and no water on the way. Did not see anyone else except me and my friend on the trail the whole day. One of my favorite hike on the island.

Great views! Only about a mile, but worked up a sweat and the incline was steeper than expected. Lots of fun!

The single trail is really nice and fun to hike. It’s also nice and cool. It would be easy to get off course without the map.

Cut your toenails for the way down and start early. Hike starts with steep incline driveway of concrete. that thins out the crowds! if you are lucky enough for a clear morning the views are amazing and you are rewarded with a sense of accomplishment. There is beautiful shaded trail part of the way, steep stairs, and a combination of groomed gravel, sliding dust and mud. I've taken the trail in heat, rain, clouds, and boo for me: mightily hungover. It is goregous but challenging for me late 50s) everytime but always inspired every time.
