An easy to follow out and back, about 1.3 miles each way! Moments of just walking through the brush to coming around a corner with beautiful view of Mauna Kea. Its straight lava rock the entire way, so it would probably be rough of dog paw pads. There's not much shade but there was occasional cool breeze since its heading up the mountain. Good for those days you just wanna get out of the house a bit! The parking is just a little turnout on the side of the road.

Relaxing and easy walk with a cool view of the crater and steam vents. Happy hiking!

A nice hike to the top of the falls. Love the guava along the trail, because they were so delicious. Happy hiking!

The waterfall was absolutely amazing. Enjoy!

Nice little walk to fall outlook. Happy hiking!

Easy, breezy and secluded! Recommend to anyone, easy to hike with kids or dogs. Nice and breezy at the top of Mauna Kea with an amazing view. Wear a warm jacket/coat.

Little shade, the trail is a rocky road. Pay attention to your gps as you get closer, otherwise the cave would be easy to miss

Best trail at Volcanoes National Park! Did it with our 3yr old who walked it completely. Bring A LOT of water ;)

This trail is open right now for biking and hiking, but no cars which makes it perfect! It is blocked off about a mile in but the views and outlooks are amazing

Amazing opportunity to hike this. Just blew my Mind! So grateful and humbling. It may be short but due to altitude it will take your breath away on the inclines. Beware of your health and take your time.

This is a once in a lifetime trail!!!! Absolutely amazing on al levels. Great for kids and adults alike. An amazing reflection of how powerful the Earth is. We took a while on these trail to read all the information on the guided tour. You can download it on your phone. No one is here right now. We had this too ourselves 99% of the time.

Quick out and back. The overlook to Pu’u Puai is overgrown. But great for kids to run and stretch. It is completely paved, good for strollers and wheelchairs. Although the line is not as clear cut as before it is still amazing transition between forest and lava demo.

Gentle walk around the crater rim trail to KMC then back via the Halema’uma’u steam bluffs. Super easy walk, great views.

Loved this trail. Good hike worth it to snorkel at Captain Cook. Hike it with our 7yr and 9yr old kids, as well as our 3yr old (who needed to be carried in some sections). Bring plenty of water! Definitely not easy but ultimately only 4 miles round trip.

What a beautiful hike. It was a perfect day. The sun was coming thru the forested area and when we got to the crater and walked across, the clouds kept it from getting too hot. Wear layers - can be chilly at first. So much to look at.

Walk through the lava to a viewpoint out and back. Is paved for a very short section not all the way at all so description is wrong and you end up walking on black sand and lava rocks. No shade after the small hut about 20 minutes in so could be brutal on a hot day. But nice views from the top and could continue onto Crater Rim trail. Trail is open (06/19/20).

This trail was quite boring, just sand the whole way up, the views at the top are pretty great, but driving up may have been better. No place to sit and have lunch due to the exposure.

The falls are beautiful and packaged in a nice little park. Plenty of room to explore.

An easy walk and nice and cool. And it's a flipping lava tube! It's great. Unless you're a monster with no appreciation of natural wonders, you will enjoy this.

I mean, you're hiking on a volcano. How cool is that? The trail down can be muddy and slippery but I did it with a toddler on my shoulders.

Really good hike! Couldn’t have asked for better weather. Absolutely nobody until the very end when I was coming back. The cave looks pretty cool and is nice and cool. I sat and enjoyed my snack and drink and then headed back. Not even 2.5hrs when you time the walking. Enjoy! #thisguytravels303 out!
