Best kid friendly trails in Kamuela, Hawaii

Nice short hike to the Hawaiian petroglyph sanctuary spot. Entrance is a bit tricky to find, just park at the beach and head back inland, you will see the trailhead on the left side where the parking lot ends. It starts as a paved trail but pavement ends when you enter the burn forest. Recommended for kids.Show more

Some areas of the trail are narrow and do not have handrails near steep areas to either side. Use caution when navigating and passing others. Accessibility: There is one designated accessible space in the small paved parking lot off of Pauoa Road at the east end of the trail. It does not appear to be van-accessible with a striped access aisle. The trail surface is asphalt, packed gravel, dirt, cement, or wooden boardwalk (with edge barriers), and typically at least 3 feet wide. While the boardwalk has edge barriers, other portions of the trail with steep drop-offs do not appear to have edge barriers or handrails, use caution. The estimated grade is moderately steep (8% or less) except for steep (8-12%) uphill and downhill sections at about 0.8 and 1.3 miles when going clockwise. Wheelchair/mobility equipment or stroller users may need assistance in the steep sections along this entire route due to the regular sections above a 5% grade (especially if using manual equipment). All-terrain tires or motorized equipment may be needed for the unpaved sections. There are benches along the route for resting.Show more
