Very easy in and out. The water here is strikingly beautiful on a sunny day. The reproduction hut was interesting. Good hike for those who like to know the historical significance of places they visit.

Always spectacular! More challenging when wet. A must see on the Island.

We did the full loop, and got to the access road at about 5 miles. The access road in my opinion was worse than the trail since there was a bunch of loose rocks. Next time, we’ll go the the road and turn around!

Great falls and lush forest. Worth every penny of five bucks. Easy with rails and stairs. The attendant even supplies umbrellas!!

Just wow. This is quite the amazing trek. We went through to Honokane Iki and spent some time on the second beach. It was just us and the coconuts. Getting down into the second valley requires gloves, because someone has taken the time to add rope to the most vertical portions of the hike. We noticed someone had left a few old pairs of work gloves on a small rock shelf just before the descents begin. You come to three rope sections before you hit the valley. In the valley, there is a bamboo forest that has overtaken the ruins, but you can still see the remainders of rock walls here and there. An absolutely worthy trek for the adventurous spirit!

$5 to park or if you park outside the park it’s $1 per person. Easy hike with 400 stairs. 3 waterfalls but can only view 2.

This is a lookout point. Very easy hike. It was raining when I went but it was beautiful. The water looked muddy but it had been raining!

Honestly pretty brutal. Was not used to this kind of humid, wet, nasty heat, when we did this in July. Getting out of Waipio valley was just these ruthless switchbacks and it was pretty overgrown and lots of bugs. The valley itself was nice to camp in, but a lot of people on our trip got really sick in the middle of it which really didn’t help our cause. Overall a really hard hike if you aren’t prepared, as some hikers weren’t. If you’ve hiked before and are in good fitness, definitely worth checking out and camping in the valley!!

We hiked it as a family and had a great time. It’s all down hill at first so be prepared to walk back up with very uneven footing. It was sunny and trail was dry for us. Lots of shade to break and rest if you need to. My kids ages 7 and 12 did great on it. Bring lots of water. It’s beautiful!

Nice short trail with great history. We enjoyed it very much.

This is a great trail for a leisurely walk or you want to put out for a tough climb. The trail mixes between paved (descent footing), lava rock/sand (horrible footing), and soft grass on the steepest portion. There is plenty of flora worth a photo or two and there were a lot of goats and a couple herds of sheep. We even crossed paths with some awesome looking rams at the top of the cone. Worth the 3 1/2 hour walk!!

Such an incredible walk. We parked at the gate walked in an extra 1.5 miles at 600 AM. Got to see Hawaiian Monk Seals and the wild goats.

Turned back at 2.5 miles. It was overcast and rainy so we didn’t have any views of Mauna Kea, but still very scenic!

Cannot recommend this trail. It is within an active hunting area and some of the activity is very close. You could literally see the hunters shooting from their trucks when we were there on a Sunday morning. We turned back after an hour because we felt unsafe as the bullets were flying by in close proximity. Hard to believe that this is designated as a public hiking trail.

Nice short walk. Beautiful waterfall. The best view of the waterfall is definitely from the short little trail on the bottom. If you go up the stairs, you can see the waterfall from the top, but not the greatest views. If you take the stairs up, definitely do the little loop at the top. The trees are really cool. This is my fourth visit. It is always busy with lots of buses. Restrooms available.

My app stopped recording! But, I went up beyond the top of the waterfall. There are a lot of rocks to hop on to see some other small waterfalls. The rocks are somewhat slippery. I recommend sturdy shoes. The path itself has some downed trees, lots of roots, pretty muddy, and somewhat overgrown. There are several paths you can choose from but they all seem to lead to the same place.

Easy short walk with pretty views! Bathrooms available.

Absolutely beautiful walk along the ocean (most of the way). When you start the accent up to the top of the cinder cone hill look to your left and you’ll see a thin walking trail (vs. the dirt road used by cars). This path will not take you to the top but will save you from a steep and slippery climb and decent. Take lots of water. We had two of our group (of 4) hail an Uber from Kua Beach back to Kona as round trip was almost 9 miles (25% of the time walking through sand). Not super easy and not kid friendly in my opinion. Highly recommended if your looking for Hawaiian beauty and you’ve got about 4 hours to spend on a walk. Kua bay was super crowded... some of the beaches near the southern end of the hike were absolutely beautiful and were empty at 11am (as we hiked north) and still uncrowned at 2pm (as we returned south). The trail is not clearly marked and having all-trails with GPS was wonderful to have.
