The chained off area at the lookout is NOT where the trail starts. That is a restoration area. Have a little decency and respect, don’t go stompin' through there. If you’re gonna hike this unsanctioned trail, find a better way. The ropes are getting old. If you can’t navigate the climbs without the ropes, you have no business being up there. Always check your handholds and footholds. You’ll find that many of the solid looking rocks are crumbly and loose. People fall all the damn time up here. The views are honestly what you’d get on any Ko'olau ridge hike (Kuli’ou’ou, Wiliwilinui, Hawaii Loa). Beautiful sweeping views of the Windward side. The pull is for the climbing, which is sketchy af. Mind the bees. @niiimz_

Nice hike. Almost all was shaded. Muddy in spots but not too bad. Beautiful views at the top. One thing to note - although we followed the trails exactly as mapped here, the hike was about 4.5 miles, not 3.4.

Not well marked but actually not the bad - took us three hours round trip with 30 minutes at the waterfall. Go fast, cross to the left early to enter the bamboo forest and when the river splits go right. Obviously very muddy and overgrown but pretty fun. Waterfall on the end is definitely swimmable with a rope to climb up and do some cliff diving. As others have said just follow the stream. If you lose the trail drop down into the stream and keep going and you’ll likely see an orange flag on one side of the river at some point and recatch the trail

We did both the North and South trail on the same day and if you only have time for one, this is the one to do! Dramatic and exhilarating cliff walking with great views and thundering waves showering you Constantin a fine sea spray :)) well maintained and easy to follow path which only had a couple of sections were trees are invading or the cliff has dropped of - but easy enough to navigate. And the best of it all - after 200 yards from the car park - we met nobody! 2 hours of solitude! Bliss! Maui’s best kept secret path!

Probably the most breathtaking view of the Napali coast outside of taking a heli tour. Don’t attempt in rainy or windy conditions. Some very exposed areas. We finished the round trip in an hour with some picture breaks.

We did the South and North trail on the same day - and having done the South trail to Hana beach first this is second best. If you can only do one then head south for more dramatic scenery and great cliff walking and views. The first mile of the northern half is the most interesting with lots of blowholes and coves and old burial sites.

Great trail, very sunny and no shade. Saw dolphins and whales our entire walk out and back. Albatross and seals at the end to highlight the hike. Would definitely do again. Bring lots of water. Fairly easy hike that we finished with my parents. Beautiful the entire way there and back.

Trail was great! Heard some pigs close by

the hike is a steep long dirt and meadowy road. kokohead meets sound of music. entrance is right of the tree reserve. at the end is a shockingly dense low lush jungle that pops out of the road like an oasis. it is full of hunting trails and pig markings. really fun to explore and appreciate the sounds.

Cool to walk in the crater. Pretty straight forward little trek.

lots of pine trees and passion fruit Vines. foggy day but still great views.

This hike is amazing! The views:effort ratio is one of the best I have ever experienced. My entire family did this hike, including my 50 year old mom and 6 month pregnant sister. It was much harder going down at the start than coming up. There are a few spots with minor exposure, but never on both sides at once. Long pants might be nice some of the brush, it was pretty rough. The view at the end is awesome, but honestly it’s really great all along. If it has rained recently and it’s slippery there are lots of parts that could feel extra sketchy. Good shoes and celebration beers are must haves.

Amazing hike and the views are stunning ! We got to the neighborhood around 230, there was multiple patrols in the main neighborhood telling people to turn around. Please be respectful and not go through peoples yards! We got to the stairs by 315am and there wasn’t a guard there yet. Bring lots of water, snacks, hiking gloves, bug spray, sunscreen and a CAMERA!! and if you plan on going early to catch the sunrise a blanket or a jacket because it gets cold!!
