go early morning if you want to skip crowds. Good to tack this on if doing fira to oia for extra elevation

Beautiful wild flowers and incredible views in May. Easily walkable but the distance and lack of shade may be a lot for some. Bring plenty of water. Take the side path to Skaros Rock for a bit more strenuous adventurous climbing!

Great last day walk through town of Fira (or Tira) of Santorini, incorporating Old Port to Tira, but on the opposite direction. Trail consist of about 550 wide steps, that can accommodate donkeys and mules. So, as the wild tourist from all over the world want to experience any mal kingdom, they ride those beasts up and down the trail. As a consequences, there is no place to step but into donkey shit of different degrees of freshness, from very old to steaming. Therefore is the gripe. The only fragrant gripe...

Excellent trail, even on a gloomy windy day. And we met friends, albeit by pre-arrangement. And the dinner after that was amazing, to top it off.

580 steps estimated, donkey taxi up and down available, didn’t want to put donkey through that so happy to do it on foot. Great views, very hard going back up but also cable car available if you don’t fancy it. At the port can get ferry to many other Greek islands. The step themselves are mixture of concrete and a type of cobble, about three paces per step. Lots of donkey poop

Spectacular views, plenty of places to stop and refresh. Nice bars and restaurants on the way. Takes 2:30 to 4 hours each way depending on speed and what you want to do on the way.

Great walk from Fira to Imerovigli. Sweeping views of the blue sea and commanding caldera all throughout, with plenty opportunities to stop for a drink, a bite to eat, or to snag a souvenir. Must love stairs (although you knew this coming to Santorini). This hike extends your journey further, taking you to Skaros Rock for uninterrupted views of everything Santorini has to offer.

This was an amazing trail. Gorgeous views during the entire hike. There was a section at the beginning of the trail that was closed off and we had to go around. If coming from Fira and you pass the movie theater there is currently a fallen sidewalk we had to turn right before the theater before getting back on the path. The trail is not well marked and sometimes it gets confusing. I think it’s better to walk to Oia than start there. Great hike for the afternoon.

This is a fantastic hike with very gradual inclines. The views from the trail of the towns of Santorini, the Aegean Sea, Nea Kameni, etc. are really beautiful. If you’re not up for the out and back loop, you can also just do the first leg (Fira to Oia). It’s a lot easier if you start really early.

A little tricky at times to make sure you stay on the right path, but absolutely worth it. The spectacular views along much of this route are not available any other way. Taxiing from Oia is always an option if you are not up to the round trip mileage. Highly recommended.

Amazing views. Super hot in July, but a great workout and totally worth it!!

Fun hike! We saw people climbing to the top of the rock but it looked a little risky. We opted to not do that but checked out the little church below which was an awesome to explore.

Incredible view! Great hike. The sun was pretty relentless but we were prepared with hats, sunglasses and sunscreen.

Moderate trail due to lots of steps. There is a difficult climb to the top of the rock. On the back (west) side of the rock there is a hidden church.

Perfect temperature for the hike at the end of March. My friend’s mother came along as a first time hiker. We went slow with a lot of stops but completed the hike in about 3 hours. She is now able to say she is a hiker!

I did this trek in early-October while staying in Oia, after an unforgettable ten days sailing the Cyclades. I started in Oia and went a little more than halfway, where I rendezvoused with a friend who was staying in Fira; we walked back together to Oia for dinner. This is a walk-hike mix trail with just enough incline to keep your heart pumping. You're exposed the entire time and I underestimated the need for water -- bring a good two liters. This is a perfect trek for beginner hikers and a must-do for photographers. The distant perspective of Oia (and I imagine Fira) is absolutely stunning. I didn't do this during sunrise or sunset, but will make a point of it next time (although watching the sunrise and sunset anywhere in Santorini are among the best in the world!). There's a bus that runs between Fira-Oia and Oia-Fira throughout the day, so you can make this a one-way hike, if you want. Just check the bus schedule -- and know they won't run on time; you're in Greece!
