Awesome trail! Definitely best to do early morning there was not many people and the temperature was perfect! There are hills to go up but this is a very well maintained and complete trek with great views!

We took this trail while on vacation. I can say this was the most beautiful trail we have ever taken. There were beautiful views of the Sea, small towns and an end at the town of Oia. Highly recommend if you have time and enjoy a longer hike.

There is no way this trail should be rated moderate. It’s rocky as hell, up a sheer crevasse and the footing is so difficult you should only attempt this in good hiking shoes! Not convinced this is a loop as the signage toward the top of the ridge is non-existent. I would rate this challenging. Make sure to note the menu items so you can be ready to place your order when you reach the peak!

A Nice easy hike on a well maintained gravel road that leads to a lighthouse. Beautiful views and nice wooded terrain, which was varied from olive to pine trees to brush as we walked northbound to the tip of the island. There are a few friendly cats that “guard” the lighthouse, so bring some cat treats

Great trail. Hike started on a forest road passing through a mixed forest, transitioning quickly to evergreens, Balsam and Spruce, and occasional olive groves and rustic farms. The second half of the hike opened up to hills covered with low growing bushes and shrubs (which were in full flower at this time of year and provided a background melody of bees buzzing as we passed). There were many opportunities for views of the ocean and the hilltops. We were rewarded at the end of the trail with a visit to the Faros lighthouse and it’s a keeper, a friendly cat! Overall a pleasant, easy hike on well-maintained road (likely due to lighthouse presence) with rewarding views. Highly recommended.

Wonderful hike- absolutely gorgeous. Starting early is key, avoids the mad rush of people and there’s more shade in the canyon than if you went through it mid day. Very rocky and the first kilometer or so is fairly steep so it’s hard on your knees. If you head out of the state park and walk (or catch a van ride down) 3km to the port, there is the most gorgeous water I’ve ever seen. The beach is free and renting a chair is 7 euro. Make sure to pack your bathing suit and take a dip on the Mediterranean Sea! We took a bus to the top and caught a ferry and bus to get back to Chania. (I think the company was called Elafannosis) Zero problem with the company but take drammamine for the bus rides. Those mountain roads are killer!

Recommend long pants and sturdy shoes or boots. Hiking poles also a plus. Amazing views. You indeed can stand at the very top of the Aegean. The peak comes quicker than you think. Cool cave along the way and a spring that claims to be drinking water.

From the place to the monastery of the prophet Elijah the way is mostly very well developed. In the monastery there is a great little shop with some homemade jams, honey, soaps, but also icons and clerical books. From the monastery on the mountain, the trail is well signposted, but really very inhospitable and steep. The view is fantastic.

Great views

Trail interesting but without any signs

This path was not at all easy to follow. I ended up completely lost although it was very scenic.

This trail is helpful and clear - it takes you up to the monastery via the cave of the apocalypse on a clear (albeit rocky and thus slippery in the rain) path with great views that allows you to almost entirely avoid the roads.

One of my favorite hikes in the world. Recommend timing walk to arrive in Oia at sunset. Incredible caldera views throughout the hike.

Honestly, I’ve done quiet a few trails I found this one to be a little overrated. It had views for sure but they are the exact same view you can see from any other part of the island. There were parts were it was a little difficult but my 75 year old grandma was able to do it with us so you will probably be able to do it just fine. Overall I found it to be a waste of time while I was on vacation in such a beautiful place I would have rather spent the time at a beach or eating the delicious seafood available.
