Great stretch of Red 20 trail, perfect for an out-and-back trip from the Zorkos beach or the Aegea Blue Resort. The caves at the end are really spectacular and if you walk about 700m past the cave on Red 20 the views are breathtaking. The terrain is rocky and quite steep at parts and since there are snakes on Andros - especially active in the summer - you should have appropriate hiking boots and long pants. Trail entrance is across the street from the Aegea Blue gates. There are plenty of wild goats (very shy) and many species of birds and small lizards along the side of the hill. When you reach the end of the dry riverbed, stay to the left and about 100m up you will find the entrance to the cave. The cave is not too hard to climb into and out of; there is even a small rope ladder at the second terrace of the entrance. The rocks are slippery at parts inside and it’s quite dark initially but then opens up and has two portals which overlook the sea. Overall it’s a great (1-2hr) excursion and I’d highly recommend it!!

We made the section Chora Apoikia at the end of the day, the climb to Apoikia is made by a historic path laid out by large slabs and accompanied by stone wall (slab shale) typical of the region. The climb from Chora offers a breathtaking view of the medieval city but is quite steep, little shade during the day, we go from 0 to 300 meters in less than 3 km. The Apoikia / Chora descent is more conducive to enjoy the wide panorama, the trail is very well marked and the wide path.

This trail was not on google maps, which meant that my companion did not follow the exact trail. The sections we did see were marvellous, but we found it quite hard to orient (and to find the waterfalls)

Took hiking route 15(a) from Gavrio. The walk was stunning! From the incredible views to the wildlife, there was a lot to see.

Perfect for a first hike to Andros which offers incredible panoramas. The trail is well maintained and properly marked, except for a small section, keep an eye on the beacons. To do before 9am because the sun beats quickly here in summer
