March 1, 2020. Did this hike - at least a good portion on it - on a rainy day, from heavy rain to light rain the entire time, with occasional no rain. Perfectly doable with no guide, as long as you have shoes you don’t mind getting soaked with some decent grip, and a decent rain poncho (or don’t mind getting soaked). Would rate it as moderate to easy. We started from the mount Belvedere lookout, and as you are facing the mountain the trail head is clear from the parking lot and to your right. The initial trail is pebble path. After that, the Trail is almost all marked with guidestones on the side. After just a bit there will be a proper post sign that says “coco trois” or something like that, where you cut left. Can’t miss A lovely waterfall was running about 1/3rd of the way into the trail, and it is marked “cascade” and is a small side diversion . You can get into the water fall. Then back out to the trail and continue on the trail which is sloping slightly downward. There are a few places where you just have to pick up the trail after an open clearing or two - some of which were shallow ponds of water in a clearing - by finding where the guidestones pick up. Not hard. Very few proper trail markers - just very small signs nailed to a tree here and there, but you really can’t get lost as it is just too thick to go too far off trail. Several pleasant streams to cross which were rushing but never more than ankle or knee deep even with stronger rains, so moderate caution is advised but definitely easy to do. Path was slick and muddy, but give into the mud and you are fine. Well worth it, and don’t be deterred by a rainy day. Not the coco trail, but You can also go left when facing the mountain from Belvedere lot for a shortish trail down to a nice rushing stream. No review of the lookout because we turned back prior to getting that high. Not for any particular reason, but we didn’t know how much further and had hiked a fair bit.

Great hike with lovely swimming hole/waterfall. Bonus: collect a fruit basket to go on way down.

Good hike with nice views at the top. Muddy ascent can be challenging. I’d recommend doing the end as a loop to add some variance and 2km.

Good hike, some incredible views as you walk along ridges. Some parts have thin trails and you’re on the side of a mountain but with sure steps, it is no issue. Moments when you’re suddenly in a jungle too which is really cool

Easy most of the way but the last 10 percent was steep with not a lot of room for error. Covered basically the entire way.

Breathtaking waterfall at the end of trail. Fairly easy hiking. Bit slippery because it rained heavily yesterday. Watch out for stray dogs before the trailhead.

Very solid trail and a good hike. Would rate it as "easy" for the majority of the hike with a nice little "moderate" climb at the end. The trail itself seemed very well marked and easy to follow. Beware overhead branches - the trail is very rooty and muddy and you may find yourself running into a tree branch if you are looking at your footing too much. There is one section near the top where the mountain seems to have washed out underneath the trail. You can still navigate across the roots but it isn't solid ground. Hopefully some trail maintenance in the near future will fix this. The view at the top is great - much more peaceful than the overcrowded photo area at the trailhead.

Great trail but a tall (pun intended) order. We left at 0510 from the Belvedere Restaurant and fell about a kilometre short of the top. All up four hours to get to the top and three to get down (however add another hour to complete the section we didn’t climb). Early morning start means you’ve got a fair bit of shade while the sun rises behind Aorai. Reaching the first hut is relatively easy but after that the trail gets dicey. Watch your step because there’s gaps in the trail and lots of ropes in parts. If you have any fear of heights or problems with balance/vertigo I would not recommend. Very exhausting after the first hut particularly as the temperature rises Cloud cover around the summit after 1000ish. Take it slow on the way down. If it has rained recently I would stay away. Lots of water (3 1/2 litres at least) recommended.

Wow!! It was a great one. Bring water! Although it’s mainly shaded it was very warm and humid. Very muddy after it rains!! Beautiful trees, crossed a couple of streams, and the terrain was up and down until the last 30 min or so - then it was challenging switchbacks all the way up!! The view is worth it. Watch carefully for trail markers...there aren’t a lot!!

Fairly easy trail, really cool short hike through the jungle with a beautiful water fall at the end. You can drive up to the trail head in a car (first water crossing) but we had to park a ways down and hike up because we only had a small rental car that did not have a lot of ground clearance. If we didn’t have a gps leading the way i would have thought we were driving to through the locals neighborhood, there are not any signs leading to the trail head until you get there

The trail is inside a gated community now. Weeds and all kinds of plants have grown covering the trail.

Amazing hike, giving you a tremendous view of Moorea! We arrived at the top just in time before the clouds came in and brought some rain while we were descending. Its not recommended to walk with rain (this wasn’t forecasted) the trail gets super slippery and therefore takes much more time going downhill and is kind of dangerous. Nevertheless the views are amazing and the hike is not that tough! Enjoy

This has been my favorite hike on Mo’orea, though Rotui was also pretty awesome and I would suggest checking it out. The hike took my friends and I five hours round trip but that included an hour break at the top. I would suggest wearing pants for the ferns can that cut up your legs, and I definitely wouldn’t do it when it’s raining. Also, the last section is rather steep but has ropes to help you get to the top. The hike is super cool and highly recommend it to anyone inclined.

What a hike, and what a view!!! The hike starts off with a steep vertical section, then you follow a creek up through the valley (crossing back and forth over the creek a dozen times or so). After a short section through the forest, you reach the sun exposed ridge. Absolutely do not do this in the rain (or if it has been raining), the last portion is challenging enough as is :)

Great trail to see the island, particularly if it hasn’t rained in a couple of days. Need to watch steps to avoid ankle sprains, but enjoyable hike

Took us a bit less than 3 hours including some time for pictures at the top. The hike itself is covered, but the views once you get to the top are amazing!

Pretty easy trail, but slippery even though it wasn’t rainy. Swimming hole too shallow to swim but the waterfall is pretty sweet.
