On the southern edge of the Parc Naturel des Bauges, this summit does not pay much attention from the Isère valley while its northern slope offers some trails for ski enthusiasts of the region. Yet when viewed from the Colombier d'Aillon it looks much better and various hiking trails using forest tracks or trails have been traced. For this route you can leave your vehicle on one of the car parks of the desert station at this period then joined the hamlet of Penon (1'004 m) taking first the small road which leads there and leaves it to follow a track invaded by the herbs. After having crossed the hamlet, it is a rough climb by a track traced in the forest, track degraded by the forest machines, muddy with desire after the rain and even the snow of the previous days. Fortunately, at the alpine farm (it is also a summer cottage in summer) there is a dryer track that leads first to the Col de la Sciaz (1'338 m) and beyond to Mont Pelat (1'543) m), top of the mechanical installations of the Aillon station. The nearby hump of Mount Morbié (1'542 m) is reached in less than five minutes. Towards the South the view is superb on the Combe de Savoie below and, beyond, on the chain of Belledonnes and Chartreuse. To the east-it's the Bauges that are discovered. Show more

A hike between forest and cliffs. Arrived at the Col de la Cochette, you can admire the magnificent view that awaits you with Aix-Les-Bains below. The route varies between different natural obstacles and you can be enchanted by the diversity of the sites: viewpoints, ravines, passages cut into the cliffs, limestone monoliths. Note that the passage under the Col de la Clochette is very steep. The arrival at Mont Colombier offers you a panorama of the Massif des Bauges, and in good weather, you can see well beyond! You will also have the chance to spot peregrine falcons during your walk.Show more
