Nice and easy winter hike amongst the catskills peaks with plenty of views. Trail is clearly marked. Follow the yellow trail until the junction where clear signs are posted for the hike to windham high peak marked with blue markers. Best time to enjoy is when the sun is bright and there are no leaves. Views on either side of the peak are fantastic. One side is the blackhead range and the other side is Albany and further.

Spring in January! Muddy, but an awesome day on the Escarpment.

Trail was not bad actually after freezing rain and snow. Would definitely recommend micro spikes if you are planning to hike this trail this week. Carrying snow shoe won’t hurt either.

Icy/hard pack/bare spots. Spikes the whole way. Fairly easy hike. 2 hours up 1 hour back. Would have been much Slower if we were bare booted like others we Saw. Great views at peak

Good enough. Pretty gentle ascent. Trailhead only 15 minute drive from home. Fairly crowded at least by the lower section. Lean-to in good shape.

Great trail and amazing views

Great/challenging hike. Went in winter. Started off as low wood with a frozen stream in the middle, and then a gradual climb began. Notable features: two areas of dense/dark forest with trees that have gnarled roots; rocky climbs in some areas. Decent view at top, but you’re mostly looking at flat land below as opposed to a more scenic landscape. Do this one for the challenge and the scenery you see along the way.

A good hike with a nice payoff at the summit. The hike is through mostly unremarkable forest, although there is an intriguing section of “spooky” woods. What makes the summit special are the three lookouts offering different views. The south facing view is of nearby mountains and the north facing lookouts give a view that fades into the distance of valley lands. Two are located on opposite sides near the summit, but be sure to walk several hundred feet further east, past the geo marker in a rock in the trail, to come to the third lookout.

Great hike!

Trail was in great shape. Most likely the most memorable mountain I will be on. #isaidyes

Beautiful gradual climbs...

Great trail. Started at North South Lake. Newman’s Ledge and North Point are my favorite spots.

Beautiful above-the-cloud hike this morning (8/18/2019). The large parking lot is across NY 23 from the trailhead. There are also mountain bike trails here so pay attention for bikers. The very well maintained trail begins it's uphill climb almost immediately. The early portion of the trail is a soft forest floor before it enters into a stunning pine grove. Once on the other side, the trail becomes decidedly rockier and then gets steeper closer to the summit. Views are limited to the overlooks. The first looks south towards Blackhead, Black Dome, and Thomas Cole Mountains, the second and third look north towards Albany. The true summit is marked by a disc in the rock, in the middle of the trail.

Beautiful, woodsy trail. Pretty mellow elevation gain with some nice views at the top. Did see some very fresh bear sign.

I had such a fun time on this trail. I am not a super experienced hiker, but am trying to get back into it. It was my longest hike so far and was fairly easy. Not very steep except for a few sections. Ran into a couple, one of whom was recovering from knee surgery and they seemed to also find it doable. Overall an excellent time!

Beautiful trail, particularly along the ridge. There are NO water options except for a small creek a mile from the campground.

Really nice moderate hike! Took me longer than most because I stopped a lot to play with salamanders (lol), but a majority of this hike was pretty flat or a very gradual incline. It was supposed to be rainy today, and it was at the start, but it got sunny and heated up pretty quickly about 2/3 in. The view right before the summit at the two vantage points are really nice and both have nice flat rocks for sitting and admiring. As others have mentioned, I recommend trekking poles - mostly for the way down and especially today with the rocks (and there are a lot of them) being wet and slippery. Took my pit bull mix and she handled the hike just fine.

Follow the GPS but don't turn right down Windham Place, just go straight and takes you right to the trail head. no really a hard trail as it's a very moderate climb. well marked trail. not really muddy. Rocky but not any scrambles. gets really buggy at the top, but mostly ground flys (harmless but annoying). two lookouts at the top which are beautiful.
