randonnée sac-à-dos

My Wife (girlfriend at the time) and I took our time hiking from Rt 430 south to Panama in the summer of 2016. This was her first backpacking experience. We camped at the lean-tos. There is a hand pump well, two lean-tos with fire rings and a nice large grass area suitable for tent camping. Unfortunately, someone had been partying and left a fair amount of trash around. The next morning, the hike was pleasant and we took our time at a nice leisurely pace. The trails were mostly well manicured with sections of tall grass and the occasional mud. There was a section of trail that was closed and we had to walk a ways down a country road. We stayed a second night at the southern lean-tos. This experience was much nicer than the first night. The area was cleaner, and there was more room to set up tents. There was a hand pump well there for use as well. Knowing the remanding trip was relatively short we stayed later and made a nice breakfast. The last section of the trail was well groomed and mostly dry. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and will do it again. The complete trail could be done in a day at a fast pace.

Beautiful part of the county. Only did a few miles but would like to do more, but not excited about so much on-road trail. Today was very muddy, some ice. People must run their dogs and not clean up after them, disappointing to see so much on the trail. Leave No Trace means your pet, too!

Tough trail strait up the mountains

We have been on various sections of this trial before all very enjoyable. This time we wanted to start down at the official starting point. We parked in the parking lot and started up the forest road The trail starts about 30 yard up the road and goes off to the left but as we were heading up the road, a black bear ran out of the woods on the right side of the road and headed right up the trail head !! So we chickened out and just stayed on the forest road not wanting to follow right up behind the bear . He was moving fast as he charged across the road and up the trail...…… I am guessing 200lb + My Golden Retriever would have been a nice snack BTW the Forrest Road is also a beautiful hike !! I see on some maps, especially when in satellite view, they notate the forest road as being the Overland Trail but that is incorrect and misleading The Trail shoots off to the left about 30 yards up the road as you begin walking look for the blue trail markers...……

Started at jasper park, walked along warner road to snake river road then hopped on the overland trail and took it back to point O on warner road and back to jasper park.

You don’t have to walk for 29km to enjoy this hike ! Just park at Mt Morris Visitor Center and enjoy a 20-30 minutes with several amazing views over the canyon, each one different from the one before. It is definitely worth seeing.

We’ve hiked sections of this every year as long as I can remember. We love it year round. We recently did the first section from the Gorge to 430 and that was a really enjoyable walk around an hour and 45 minutes. We stopped for a lunch break too. Great parking. Lots of wildlife and trail is well maintained. Good variety. There is a section where you walk quite a ways on a country road (Summerdale I think).

We were unable to complete all the out and backs to all the peaks. That being said, the peaks we did hit (6 out of 10) were well worth it. We went counter-clockwise hitting Wright first. The trail down from Algonquin was really rough and I was glad to get that out of the way on the first day. We camped out near Lake Colden which gave us about 9 miles on the first day. The following day was a lot easier. That was when we started skipping some of the out and backs - We only hit skylight and marcy. After that we finished the rest of the route avoiding out and backs. One note is that we did not take any of the ski trails and instead took alternative trails.

This was a nice flat trail at the north end and would have been great for easy mountain biking. It had several views of the gorge.

I took my eleven and twelve year old beginners out tonight. They loved it!! They couldn’t believe how clean and natural everything was it was beautiful ❤️

This trail is well marked off the main roads (302, Bates Road) but impossible for me to follow once i left those points. I've decided that hiking the roads in Chautauqua County is much more enjoyable to me. There are beautiful views of farms and well-kept barns, and the occasional glimpse into Amish life. At first, I parked my car on Wait Corners road just off of 302, then started out both ways on the Cusimano trail off of 302 only to be very disappointed. Wet and boggy was to be expected with all the recent rain, but to the north of 302 I hit an acre of overgrowth with no direction, and to the south of 302 over the stile I realized it would just be slogging through mud for no reason. So instead I decided to go down Wait Corners to Bates and then follow that up the hill. There's a nice intersection with the Cusimano trail up at the crest of the hill that is worth a detour for the views of that part of the county, but again I eventually lost the trail and didn't want to end up in someone's field or back yard with a big dog or, worse, a gun. Not impressed with this trail at all. Maybe it's better in winter, but I'm only here in the summer. At least I can follow the Allison Wells trail, mosquitoes and all.

We hiked this as part of the Wegmans Finger Lakes Trail Passport Challenge. We checked out the dam, then hiked from the Dam parking lot to Hogsback Overlook, just a couple of miles but we had other areas to explore that day. Beautiful views, easy, level walk, trail was maintained well. The Passport marker was missing at that time, but I have been back since and it has been replaced.
