This was a really great hike! Took my mom and my daughter based off the 5.4 mile AllTrails rating, but it’s longer than what is stated. Not too big of a deal - my daughter was a trooper and the 3 of us committed to making it all the way. Two different GPS tracking devices we had tracked us at 7.3 round-trip miles. Recorded from trail head to waterfall, and back again. The switchbacks make the trail interesting and the views are beautiful. The uniqueness of the narrow trail was a welcome change and provided some excitement. There was some snow/ice near the start of the trail and quite a good amount as you get closer to the falls. We wore our snow boots and didn’t have spikes or snowshoes, and we fared pretty well by staying to either side of the trail in the snow and avoiding the ice skating rink that was straight down the middle. If going in only snow boots, make sure you’re confident in your balance and be sure-footed. For now, avoid going in sneakers or low-rise hiking shoes. Recommended to bring spikes and possibly poles if you want more assurance.

beautiful views of the South lake, and the trail is not difficult and was very clear in the snow. Currently, the snow is a few feet deep and I wouldn't go without snow shoes.

Great trail with beautiful views the whole way. The switchbacks are fantastic - and my dog loved the hike too!

Great trail! challenging and views all the way up! refreshed my water supply in the waterfall ;)

I recommend parking on Elk Point Rd instead of Sierra Sunset Lane. Trail was very easy terrain and covered a lot of pretty views. I would definitely bring your phone and follow the trail through the app because it isn't really labeled and you cross quite a few other trails along the loop. Be sure to veer a little off trail for the view of the water at Nevada Beach.

Plenty of shade, some water at the beginning for the dog. Narrow and uphill but nothing too bad and the views are awesome!

Great views of the valley. Very steep dropoff on narrow trail so be sure-footed and OK with height! Dog-friendly but for dogs that don't pull on leash because you will need your balance. Encountered now at the top from the storm during the weekend before. Awesome experience!

Nice trail that takes you up almost across from Tallac and crystal range mountains. Not great views of Tahoe but good views.

Amazing trail. Wasn’t expecting all the switchbacks but I also didn’t read the reviews before the hike lol. It can be kind of dangerous so if hiking with kids or dogs keep them close. We didn’t go all the way, and the route I recorded reflects that. We are going to come back though since we live five minutes away lol

Quick, rewarding hike! Out and back in 2 hours, including 30 minutes hanging at the top. There is a bit of a scramble at the peak, but it's worth it

Now that the new parking lot is now open for the loop trail, the little parking area shown on this map is now marked with a sign as “ No trail parking”. If you park on the street, this is still a shorter there-and-back compared to the loop trail.

Great hike in from Benjamin Dr up to castle rock trail. Beautiful day, pretty easy hike up and down through the trees and the best lunch spot up on castle rock. Highly recommend this hike!

Very pretty views of the valley, lots of shade. Not for beginners, steep drop off in places, good trail. Didn’t have enough time or energy to make it to waterfall . I would definitely return.

Moderate hike start early. It gets hot if you start in the afternoon. Great views of the valley.

Phone read 5.68m in 1:22:25 with 1797ft of gain. My GPS jumped around a little near the top which I think tacked on extra elevation. There is a trail up a ridge line that bypasses all of the switch backs. Great views of the Valley in a couple spots, and the waterfall is well worth the trip.

Great trail, more shade than I expected, started on east side, would do again.

We started at the Daggett Summit trailhead and then jumped on the bottom part of the Castle Rock trail. We did this to avoid the hawk nest and start closer to where we were staying. It was a nice, fairly easy hike with good lake views. Recommended if you are looking for a quick hike.
