Well maintained loop trail with some very nice views along the way. Gradual elevation gain makes it good for most levels of hikers.

Did this on December 24th 2019! It was absolutely breathtaking. My 6lb dog hiked the entire thing and had an amazing time as well. We started at 1030 and were back at the parking lot at 3. Our hike included a 30 minute lunch at the very end by the creek! Highly recommend! Easy terrain and beautiful views

Really beautiful landscape! Sunny day with a very light breeze, probably around 65 degrees Fahrenheit. Wish I had worn shorts instead of leggings, as the trail is mostly exposed and I got a bit hot. Red Dome provides shade by the river, so it's a welcome rest for people and dogs. Trail is very well marked, sandy and rocky at times. One part you go up, then down on your way back, a short set of rock steps that could be slippery if your feet are wet from one of the creek crossings (which are all easy). Super impressed with the preserve and how they maintain everything. We ended up donating some money in the dropbox at the trailhead.

I love this trail. Many thru hikers in the Spring. I’ve hiked it in the summer and spring, and winter; and each season offers its unique challenges. In the summer, bring lots of water as almost every spot is dry. In te spring and fall, bring a camera as the beautiful colors are amazing (and water, but you might find some running water at high elevations) and winter, layer up! Temperatures can drop to the twenties! I see more hikers in the Spring and Fall than any other season.

Great trail, certain parts seemed a little sketchy after heavy rainfall but the trail was stunning all the way through out! Took three hours total. Definitely recommend.

Nice straight forward trail. We had to park and walk on the blacktop for what felt like a long ways to get to the trailhead, though. The water fountain there was a pleasant surprise with nice tasting water We only had time for a little over two miles up and had to turn back but enjoyed the views and some field mice, rabbits, lizards and birds. Our hike was on Dec 27 the and there was plenty of snow a little higher up

Great little trail, and the grounds in the conserve are beautiful right now. Conserve is closed, but you can park at the bridge and hike in none the less. Easy - moderate switchbacks for the elevation gain going either witch way, and a great view at the top. Was perfect for the dog.

OPEN! The Preserve is open 8am to 5pm closed Holidays but always call to confirm! They have restrooms and water but you will need to pack out all of your trash! The trail is well maintained and is rocky and sandy in some parts. Mainly no shade so bring a hat and extra water. Water crossings are somewhat challenging but trails are clearly marked with the exception at water crossings where the trail is washed out. They do a great job maintaining Trail. There is a nice shady picnic area great for a family picnic and hike. Make sure you check out the Ranger station, lots of great information with trail conditions and maps.

This trail is not marked and so you just look up and see the clump of palms and start walking up there. We saw some birds and some jack rabbits we crossed one stream with water still in it. But, once we got to where the big boulders were about 500 feet from the palms I could not finish it because my knees hurt too bad. Great stunning views of the mountains with snow on them. Oh and there was a waterfall up from us higher on the mountain just below San Jacinto Peak.

Superb hike with beautiful scenery on a well-marked portion of the PCT. Lots of variety, uncrowded, with enough elevation change to make it interesting.

Great pre-thanksgiving hike, got there before the big storm hit on Wednesday. We found a little sandy berm near red dome to pitch our tents for the evening VERY windy in the morning, our tents went air borne! 2 Miles from the visitors center to red dome, then 4 more miles to the next stop. Very easy trail. Lots of water in the creekbed. Get to the visitors center early or if you get there later, be prepared to wait for someone to leave, as the parking lot is very full during the mid day. Clean bathrooms at the visitors center.

The trail going up has a lot of switch back but the view is breathtaking. The trail drops you down into the road where you can either take the road back or follow the water back to the preserves.

Trail starts off flat for the first half mile or so and then it's a steep climb for the next mile or so with views of the canyon from the top. Moderately difficult hike due to the rapid Elevation gain and somewhat washed out trail on the ascent and descent.

Whitewater Preserve has reopened starting 11/01/19.

The road to the trail is open!! I hike it today with my 8, 10 and 13 month old (in a backpack) and all 4 of us enjoyed!!
