I would agree with the person who said this hike should be rated difficult and I hike a lot. It is glorious and beautiful but I would have liked it to be about 20 degrees cooler because it is a steep trail and there is very little shade. We were there in mid March and the temps were only about 79. I drank all my water and actually used both my sticks on the descent. Also, don’t rely on google—follow the written directions under the “getting there” tab or you will get lost. We think that we should have taken the right fork where it says “low vehicles” and saved our truck some rattling. I am unclear if a permit is needed to day hike as you are on Tohono O’odham land—we could not locate the host. Trail is well marked and the views are spectacular. As painful as I found the ascent, I was ecstatic, exhausted and grateful at the end of the day.

I would call this a hard hike, decomposed granite and rocks all the way and nonstop upward grade the whole time, wear boots and I’d suggest hiking poles when coming down. Beautiful but also isolated. I would NOT do this in any sort of heat, Southern facing exposure most of the way and bedrock would turn it into an oven. Tall grasses make seeing snakes difficult, I wish I had worn snake gaiters. Very unique and remarkable hike, but challenging.

Beautiful hike with stunning views. Best hike in southern Arizona.

Great hike. Very rugged and secluded. We ran into a border patrol agent on foot who was after some drug runners. The trail isn't in great shape, but we only lost it a couple times. More information on this post: http://yourcameraisnotbigenough.blogspot.com/2016/01/spooky-baboquivari.html?m=1
