The distance in the description is not accurate due to the closing of the road to the trailhead. You have to park at Gold Creek Pond and hike up the road about 1.5 miles. The Gold Creek Trail is okay but rocky, overgrown in places and not very scenic because it wanders through forest. The trail to Alaska Lake is a butt kicker and is near vertical in several places. You will have to scramble on all fours over some boulder fields. The lake is nicer, but I won’t do it again - lots of hard climbing for an average cascade mountain lake. There are better hikes nearby.
