We originally planned to backpack and do the whole Under the Rim trail as a 2-day hike but with the sections of the trail south of Whiteman's Bench closed (as of mid-May 2019), we did this section as a day hike instead. I really enjoyed this one - it gives you a completely different perspective on Bryce Canyon, and while the section between Yellow Creek Campground and the point where one veers away from Yellow Creek can be a bit of a slog when the paths are muddy, the effort is absolutely worth it. The hike itself did not feel that hard and we easily did it in about 5 or 6 hours, including a lunch-break. We had temperatures in the 70's though and I'm sure that the going will get much harder when the summer heat hits. Also, two cars are not really needed, as one can take the Rainbow bus (free, but a reservation is recommended) to Whiteman's bench in the morning and a shuttle back to the car from Bryce point.
