No takers since last snowfall. At times was knee to hip deep. Could do without snowshoes just will post hole more. Just another good day on the mountain

I stared at 8:45 AM 12/28/19 Fun trail. The Desolation trail is packed down pretty good for spikes up to the first viewing point after that it gets a little sloppy but manageable. I made it up to where the Desolation and Thayne trails meet and ran out of time so I didn't make the full loop. Saw a few friendly people and various animal tracks. A moose was following me at some point I caught him/her on a switchback below me. I think I lost it, didn't see it when I got home.

Snowy near the top with some washed out sections up high on Desolation Trail.

Great hike with beautiful views and lots of dense foliage. Dog friendly with plenty of shade, but no water along the way for them to drink.

Did Thayne Canyon up and back route. This is a continuous uphill trail with only a couple of flat spots. It narrows toward the top and gets cooler which means more bugs so bug spray advised. PROS: shady almost entirely, saw only 7 people, beautiful flowers and trails. CONS: some overgrowth, BUGS, loose rocks makes it difficult if going downhill. BOTTOM LINE: I would do it again. Good cardio and leg work out.

Did this one today with my dog. Fun but bring a lot of water for your dog. There are no streams on the trail.

I love this trail for a little longer hike - just doing Thayne’s Canyon, or the Desolation Outlook trail are also favorites for something a little shorter. My dogs love it to. We come often. ❤️

Distance is inaccurate, actual distance is 9.2 miles. Some snow in Thayne and lots of bugs up top. Good shade in Thayne and some on Desolation Trail. Fun!! Should be rated as hard for the very steep up in Thayne, moderate on way down Desolation.

This is a nice loop hike if you get bored with the same scenery.
