Great hike! One of the best vistas I've ever been to! Very steep inclines but well worth the sweat! Pretty easy to navigate from the Little Bear Creek parking lot.

Absolutely awesome trail. There are 3 fantastic Vista points. gets very steep in some areas and may be a scramble or 2. So worth it though. Be sure to stop and find the GeoCache hidden on the trail.

great trail. it is tough because the first mile is basically up. other than that it was fine. I do recommend poles if you have them. the vista was awesome. I wanted to see the view with the foliage but it was foggy. surprisingly the view was over the fog and it was amazing. I did upload two pics.

So worth the climb! Things get pretty steep pretty quick lol. But beyond the first mile or so, it levels out a little and becomes easier. Great trail for a leg workout!

Excellent hike! For this trail, proper footwear is essential, particularly with good gripping tread and solid ankle support. May want to consider a staff or hiking poles, as portions of the descent are washed out and slippery from recent rain. The trail includes portions of The Loyalsock Trail. Pay attention to trailblazers and follow the Yellow X markers to stay on the loop rather than continue on the Loyalsock Trail. The first mile of the trail (if hiking from the parking area on Little Bear Creek) is a fairly constant upward climb. The trail is well-maintained and varies from rocky, muddy, grassy, leaf-covered, to a section which appears to be a dirt road. Hang in there - the climb at the beginning is worth it! I took it easy and slow, resting as needed and took in the flora and fauna. If you complete the full loop, there are several overlooks as well as at least two vernal pools to enjoy. I saw a variety of mushrooms, toadstools, fungi, and Ghost Pipe (AKA Indian Pipe) on this hike and the vernal pools were still full, likely due to the exceptionally wet weather in prior days. I strongly suggest liberal application of insect repellant! I practically marinated in Deep Woods Off and reapplied every hour or so and was STILL accosted by swarms of buzzing pests, particularly near the vernal pools. Wildlife spotted included red squirrels, gray squirrels, chipmunks, garter snakes, a variety of songbirds and woodpeckers, and a broad shouldered hawk.

Beautiful trail and scenery. Large red tail Hawks flew below us at the overlook.

Great trail with a couple steep ascents. Thick with mountain laurel on the top. Vistas are breathtaking!

This trail is AWESOME! The beginning is kind of steep, the middle is easy, and the end is INCREDIBLY steep to the vista. Absolutely worth it though. The view is so beautiful and the hike was so worth the time and effort. There were also TONS of Mountain Laurels, which is the state flower, so DO NOT pick them! They're so pretty! It's a trail that's difficult, but it's a good difficult trail to do if you want to try out a trail on that difficulty level.

Late review. I did this hike back in April. I started at the actual trailhead right off 87 (not Little Bear Creek parking lot) and used the connector trail just past Mile 7 to complete my loop instead of returning the way I came up. There are two vernal pools on the connector trail worth checking out in the early spring. My whole hike was 14 miles with steep uphills and downhills both ways. It was definitely a challenge (took 8 hours) but thoroughly enjoyable. I'm excited to do the whole length of the LT next week. Keep exploring, Mr. Nutters

Really great hike today. Only one on the whole trail, very peaceful. Few trees down over the trail at the start but easy to navigate. I’m sure they will have cut up in a week or two. Enjoy.

Recommend micro spikes. Also leash for dog. Coyotes on south side of the knob.

The Alpine Club really does a great job keeping the Loyalsock Trail well maintained...that bring said, the record rainfall this summer has effected the trail, in spots. The final climb/decent to Smith’s Knob is steep, sandy and slippery! The views at the top are great-an enjoyable morning trek of moderate difficulty!

Beautiful views from the top but you really have to work to get there. A good amount of elevation and then it levels off for a bit, then a pretty brutal final climb up to the top. Be warned... several false summits that start to get really discouraging, but it’s worth it when you actually get there. Lots of gnats and mosquitos, and be prepared to walk through tons of spider webs. Good idea to have a hiking pole on the way down, my legs were jello! Only passed one other person, it’s pretty low traffic.

Took Loyalsock/Smith Knob trail all the way to Painters trail and back to the road which brought us back to the parking lot. Perfect day, great scenery, trail was very well maintained.

Hiked it liked it 3/11/18, great workout getting to the top, nice view at both Helen's Window and again at the very top. A little snowy on the back side of the knob, had to get out my micro spikes. This trail is close to home for me and will likely be one of my regulars.
