Hiked 10/28. Trail was incredibly clear and in immaculate shape, gorgeous day with beautiful views of Mt Hood. Trail is kinda poorly marked. Trail marked "Timeberline Trail" takes you off the map shown on All Trails and up to Cairn Basin. Beautiful views at Cairn Basin which is about another 1 mile up. If hiking this trail clockwise, to follow the trail map shown on All Trails follow sign for Cutoff Trail at junction. I made a wrong turn at this point and ended up heading to Cairn Basin, still worth it.

Nice family trail with breathtaking views. We had some slick spots of snow & ice, but the trail was easy to follow with the AllTrails GPS. This trail was no problem for our 5 year old & a perfect way to start our day.

This is one of my favorite short trails! We did the loop counterclockwise. First part thru the forest, shady, bit of a climb for less than .5 mi., lots of roots but easily managed. Once the trail opens up the views are spectacular! Great spot to take a snack break. Steep cliffs on that part of the trail until you re-enter the forest. Cut off trail is well marked. Remainder of the loop was pretty muddy in places. We did this hike with our 6 and 12 year old boys and a small terrier mix pup. Trail felt safe for them other that the exposed stretch with cliffs. Distance for us measured 2.6 mi with a time of 1:50 mins. Handful of stops for water and snacks.

Great easy hike. Follow the alltrails route by staying to the right, the views were awesome. The cutoff trail is easy to spot as it's clearly marked.

Beautiful trail - we did a 12.3 mile loop from Top spur trailhead to Muddy fork to Ramona falls via Timberline and back to the trailhead via the PCT. We couldn’t make it far up the muddy fork due to fog conditions so unfortunately our views of Mt Hood were limited. I can imagine they are beautiful on a sunny day. The skies cleared up once we approached Ramona falls - worthwhile to see! Generally rated moderate but it did require a couple of river crossings, mostly on bridges and tree trunks (one required crossing slippery rocks over a quickly moving stream). Muddy fork was a river bed trail over rocks, no actual river along that specific part of the trail (at least this time of year). Highly recommend!

This trail had absolutely beautiful views of Mt Hood. Didn’t have any issues getting to the trailhead, and there were still some parking spots when I got there around 3pm. Not a super busy trail but still passed other hikers every once in a while. Would definitely recommend.

WARNING: The Timberline Trail is actually 30 some miles. If you want to make this only two miles, you need to take the Cut Off trail, which is marked on the map here but not mentioned in the description. This entry is highly misleading and dangerous without proper directions.

Unless you have a 4x4 high clearance truck that can handle a huge dip in the road, you cannot get there. Got most of the way there and encounters the dip. Rough gravel road for about 8 miles.

Beautiful trail make sure you take the a CUT OFF trail to take the short route. I ended up hiking 10 miles to get out and had my family worried. If you go the 10 mile route you will also end up crossing a few rivers.

Wonderful trail... Prime views of Mt Hood with wildflowers in full bloom. Pretty quick loop, not too strenuous (saw hikers carrying babies). Lots of people on a Sunday afternoon. Last couple of miles to trailhead is unpaved dirt/gravel, but drivable for pretty much any vehicle. There are worse roads in the forest haha.

Amazing views and absolutely stunning in the fall. A few things to note... -The road to the trailhead gets a little rocky and rough. But there was a Miata parked up there,so my fear for the rental car quickly ended. -At the top of the Top Spur trail, take a right towards another trail junction of about three trails. -Take the second trail on the right marked with a Mt Hood wilderness sign on the tree. This is the best side to start the loop as you’ll be facing Mt Hood head on with excellent views while you walk. -After you re-enter the forest and Mt Hood views are gone, you’ll come to another trail junction. -Take the Cut Off trail if you’re looking to shorten the hike. Otherwise you’ll continue on the 38 mile Timberline Trail. -The Cut Off trail is short and will you drop you back on to the other side of the the Timberline trail. You can take a left to get back to the major junction. -You’ll continue heading down until you cut back left to descend the Top Spur Trail. Enjoy!!
