Note: This loop involves bushwacking and navigating off trail. Park on the Lake Bonita side of the park off Corinth Mountain Road. Head in a clockwise direction around lake then continue on Waterfall Trail. There are limited views of the Hudson River so this route drains out to the trailhead on Spier Falls Road so you can see the river upstream of the dam. Continue up the power line trail then bushwack over to Western Ridge Trail. Continue up to White Birch Trail then bushwack extensively to get over to the Grant Mountain summit quickly. You can come off the blue marker trail on the return and take the fire road down.

cold sunny day, hike took about 4 hours wore micro spikes to help with slipping. we followed a slightly pack trail. No wind today which made the temperature seem warmer. we used this app to follow where we were on the trail. this made it easier changing for one trail to another. ( All trails app) Beautiful hike limited view through the trees, less if the trees had their leaves.

this is a very good loop to hike for someone who is looking for a challenge without killing oneself. It's kind of buggy this year with all the rain we've been having, but hey, mosquito netting is a lot cheaper than bug repellent so go for it.

We were looking for a good 7-8 mile hike with some elevation gain. The Moreau Lake State Park trail system is perfect for making your own loops, which you can change en route according to weather, and your time and energy constraints. We used the Grant Mountain Trail recording as a basis, but modified it to include some bushwhacking but mostly staying on trails (and avoiding the steep descent/ascent towards the end of the track shown on this page). See "Loop De Doo" track for our 7.7 mile jaunt which also has some notes on "new" Red Trail to connect from Eastern Ridge (blue) trail to Lake Ann (purple) trail. (

A nice trek. Started to left side of lake and found trails to be hard to follow despite a comprehensive trail marker system in place. The leaves on the trail didn't help but I was told the first several miles of my hike were on new trails. I was hoping for views of the Hudson but they were limited. I dropped down to the road to have a look, that was nice. Went back on the power line road but had to bushwack back to trail. Continued on trails but was on limited time so bushwacked to the Grant Summit, more or less. The woods are pretty open so bushwacking was nice. Continued back then took a wrong turn onto the fire road, thought that might be a good option but it was heading down to the prison. I opted to bushwack up the hill to get back on the trail to see the lake up there, near the cabin. That was worth it. Worked my way back via the pink trail markers. My Garmin said I did 9+ miles so keep that in mind and know you can avoid the bushwacking if you want.
