Completely enchanting, if you're ready for bears. I entered this loop at the intersection of the Lucero/Upper Clear Creek trail, having come up from the reservoir. Once entering the loop trail, the portions that crossed open meadow were difficult to distinguish, often blending with game trails, although the forest portions were still clear. The trail is very lightly traveled, and incredibly scenic. My hiking partner and I had traveled about 1.5 miles N/NE on the loop, through three meadows when we encountered a cinnamon colored black bear of impressive size. We were coming out of a forested section into the meadow the bear was crossing. My partner spotted the bear, about 150-200 feet away, and we slowly backed away in the direction we'd come from. The day before, fellow anglers at the reservoir had mentioned that the bears were plentiful and cubs were abundant. Not wanting to tempt fate, we retreated and passed on hiking this loop.
