Took the Lonesome Lake trail to Hi-Cannon, and attempted to summit Cannon Mt. that way, so a little off from the trail described here. That being said, if you do attempt Hi-Cannon, you must be prepared for prolonged periods of 45°-70° inclines. Snowshoes are HIGHLY recommended, I brought mine and they were on both up and down, making the trek a little easier in the heavy snow. Trail is mostly packed down, a gaggle of hikers before me saw to that. Neither myself nor the hiking group ahead of me could complete the last 1/2 mile or so to the summit, as there was a near vertical slab of ice which was insurmountable without at least an ice pick and crampons. This was very disappointing, as you could imagine. Be aware there are several blowdowns and overgrown spots on Hi-Cannon, nothing brutal, simply obstacles to be aware of. I do not recommend the trek I took to anyone less than a seasoned hiker.
