This was a great hike on a cool, misty morning. I think the ambiance and mystique of the cliffs and trees and rocks looming out of the low clouds made our day! We arrived around 9am and set out with a steady, strong pace, stopping occasionally to take pictures of wildflowers, deer, birds and the almost eery landscape. The 5.5 mile trek in from the north parking lot to Elk Falls and back took us right at 4 hours. And while we'll both be feeling it tomorrow since this was our first real home I'd the season, it wasn't too tough. There was only a short stretch down to the falls, maybe a tenth or two of a mile, that was steep and and rocky and might be challenging for some. This IS a mixed use trail, so be prepared to share with hikers, trail runners, cyclists and equestrians. If you're not aware, there's a track-chair program at this park as well.
