Snow covered throughout, but packed down enough that snowshoes are not necessary. Beautiful hike!

12 inches of new snow, we broke the trail from the campground up to beaver reservoir and back down sourdough. The reservoir is surrounded by a road and has lots of no trespassing signs, a few decent views of the surrounding peaks, but the real draw was having the trial all to ourselves from 8am to 2pm

Tried today but the road was locked up. Then I remember that there was a post saying that the site would be closing after Labor Day.

From Peaceful Valley Campground we took the Sourdough Trail to the Cut Off Trail up to Beaver Reservoir. Lots of trees and wild flowers along the streams and a couple scenic views. The reservoir is private and no trespassing so need to stay on public road which was a bummer.

For overweight flatlanders, we did this as our first hike from out on the east coast. It is short and manageable, with a steady incline. Taking as many breaks as we needed to combat the altitude, it was just fine. The reservoir at the top is not too much to write home about, but you get a little pocket view of snow capped peaks. The other review is right in that this trail is not marked at all IRL, follow the all trails map and you will be fine. Good acclimatization hike, and dog friendly. Also we saw only two other people on trail, so nice and quiet.

I was surprised that this particular route doesn't seem to be acknowledged by the app or by the Forest Service. It is the shortest hike from Camp Dick with a reward at the end. Perhaps it is not listed because there is no "established" trail between Camp Dick and the Buchanan Trail; however, there are numerous trodden paths through the trees and up the little bit of hill to the trail, so it is definitely done often. Beaver Reservoir is barely acknowledged by the several signs at the intersections along this hike; in fact, someone has scratched it in with an arrow at one of them! The reservoir is private, so all you can do at the end is walk around it, but there are areas where you can sit and eat or watch the water flow across the road and over the dam.
