I loved this hike! I took a slight detour to see Tamarack Valley (sp?) that added an additional one mile (I wouldn’t recommend the extra effort as the main trail has plenty of awesomeness). I found the segment from the Saddle Junction to Round Valley to have patches of overgrown & low laying brush that made for some scratchy hiking (note to self: long pants next time). The amount of wildflowers surprised me. Don’t expect huge hill sides of color, but there are plenty of diverse plants with flowers that emerged after the 2018 fire. There were three streams that were running at a decent clip between the Junction and Round Valley with wildlife like deer, mountain blue jay, lots of different butterflies and plenty of other beautiful creatures. I also found the trail very quiet and peaceful from the Junction until Wellman’s divide. I DO recommend leaving at an early time (I hiked in early Aug) as I can imagine sections could’ve been very hot due to being exposed. Another point of possible interest... This trail takes you into the area that burned in 2018 and then into an area that didn’t and it was a very different experience. By this I mean that I expected the burn area to be sticks and dead trees but the flowers, ferns and small sapling pines made the views beautiful. The only reason I give it a 4 star rating is that while there has been some recent & much appreciated trail maintenance, there are some logs to walk around and bush that, at some point soon, could be removed for optimal trail conditions.
