Snowshoed from Trailhead to Sawmill. No trail from Pinos to Sawmill. Soft spots. Powder snow.

Snow shoe hike only made 2 peaks. One of the hardest hikes because of the snow!

I did this hike for the 321 challenge. With that said, if you're looking for a hard challenge hike this really isn't it. But it is so pretty and really a must do. The trail to Mt Pinos should really be rated easy but from there you start more of your moderate hike. Sawmill is a great hike with both incline and declines. But the last hike Grouse was more unexpectedly challenging because the switchbacks you travel down will be a good time when you got to go back up. Someone had taken the Grouse sign so my friend Christy had her husband make one for the hike. So keep your eye out for it they did a great job on the sign :)

This hike was amazing. It really wasn’t that hard except for the last climb up back to the car is really rough after 10 miles. I literally had to pull myself up on my trekking poles lol. The final climb up to pinos looked bad but I got to the top and I was like “oh that was it”. Definitely do the little side trail to sawmill mountain, the cairn is cool. The hike is mostly shaded from the pines which is nice and the only bugs I ran into were a bunch of grasshoppers. Me and another guy both parked in the turnout at 8 am and he was the only other person I saw on the trail until I got to the top of mount pinos. Also be aware that you’re gonna be pretty high up in elevation. I came up from sea level and I definitely could tell that I was getting out of breath way faster than usual

This is a beautiful trail. I went from the Nordic Base parking lot to the top of Mount Pinos all the way to Grouse Mountain stopping by at the Chumash Spirit Tower and back. Fantastic!

I did the full trail from Mt Pinos to Cerro Noroeste. The views are the draw. Spec-tac-u-lar. Into the Central Valley beyond San Emigdio to the north, and over the seemingly endless (Coast) mountains to the south. Hard to believe such vistas exist so close to L.A. Coming in from I-5 is a nice drive itself, through Frazier Park and the two small valleys on the way. Note you'll be driving nearly dead on the San Andreas fault, along the "big bend" as it's called. Well worth the time. Views along the first half to Grouse are as good as any, no particular reason to go to Cerro Noroeste.
